Commencement Security Officer (Temp / Seasonal)
Location: Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) No Parking
Pay: $25.36/hour
Mandatory Shifts:
Wednesday, May 27th (11am-4pm)
Thursday, May 28th (5:30am-3pm)
Position Summary
The Commencement Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment during commencement ceremonies and related events. This role involves crowd management, access control, and providing assistance to graduates, guests, staff, and visitors to ensure a positive and safe experience.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor entrances, exits, and designated areas to ensure authorized access only
Assist with crowd control and manage foot traffic during high-attendance periods
Enforce event rules, policies, and safety procedures
Respond promptly and professionally to incidents, disturbances, or emergencies
Provide directions and general assistance to guests and participants
Communicate effectively with event staff, supervisors, and emergency personnel
Observe and report suspicious activity or safety concerns
Maintain a visible security presence throughout the event
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Prior security, event staff, or customer service experience preferred
Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Must be punctual, reliable, and attentive to detail
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to lift or move light equipment if needed

Temporary/seasonal position
May include long shifts depending on event schedule
