Position Overview
The Office of Economic Equity & Empowerment (OE3) seeks a Women Business Development Specialist (PSA Opt 1) to represent OE3, promote economic development, and support women’s businesses. The role involves developing, recommending, and implementing policies and programs for the Office of Women’s Business Development, delivering technical assistance to women’s businesses, creating economic development plans, and conducting seminars and outreach with business representatives and local government officials.
Essential Functions
Develop, recommend, organize, and implement policies and programs for the Office of Women’s Business Development.
Act as a senior field representative, executing critical assignments and providing technical assistance to women’s businesses in business and workforce development.
Create economic development plans that coordinate and research resources, compiling information to identify economic assets and liabilities.
Travel to and conduct seminars with business representatives and local government officials as a spokesperson and senior representative.
Establish and maintain working relationships with business representatives and government officials.
Support additional target populations with outreach, community engagement, and research.
Perform other duties reasonably within the scope of the above enumerated duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college in economic development, marketing, and business administration.
Three (3) years of professional administrative experience in business and economic development.
Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) or more years of experience working with economic development organizations and chambers of commerce, incubators, universities, and/or non‑profits that serve women businesses.
Two (2) or more years of experience communicating and conducting presentations for women businesses.
Two (2) or more years of experience providing one‑on‑one business support to women business owners.
At least one (1) year of proven ability to create and implement economic and strategic plans.
One (1) or more years of experience in project management.
Conditions of Employment
Appropriate, valid driver’s license.
Ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
Completion of a background check and self‑disclosure of criminal history.
Compliance with applicable statements of economic interest filing requirements as mandated by Illinois law.
