The Production Planner independently owns production planning and scheduling for assigned product families or value streams and serves as a key contributor to the site’s master scheduling process. This role translates demand signals into executable production plans while balancing capacity, materials, and service requirements.
Responsibilities
Own short-, mid-, and near-term production schedules for assigned products or value streams
Translate forecasts, customer demand, and MPS targets into executable production plans
Manage schedule trade-offs across service, inventory, and capacity
Proactively identify risks to schedule stability and recommend mitigation plans
Support the Master Production Schedule (MPS) by validating feasibility of demand plans
Provide input on capacity constraints, lead times, and production flexibility
Participate in demand and supply alignment discussions (S&OE / execution reviews)
Help stabilize the frozen and slushy planning horizons through disciplined execution
Analyze labor, equipment, and material constraints across planning horizons
Partner with manufacturing leadership to resolve capacity gaps or sequencing challenges
Escalate systemic constraints and propose planning or structural improvements
Partner with Purchasing and Materials to ensure material availability aligns with production plans
Coordinate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality on changes impacting schedule feasibility
Communicate schedule priorities, risks, and changes clearly to operations and leadership
Maintain and improve planning master data (lead times, routings, lot sizes, BOM accuracy)
Track and analyze performance metrics such as schedule adherence, plan attainment, and inventory impact
Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to planning accuracy, stability, and responsiveness
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
2-4 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or materials planning
Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, Infor etc.)
Experience balancing demand, capacity, and material constraints
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, scenario analysis)
Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving skills
Ability to operate independently and influence without authority
Preferred Qualifications
APICS / ASCM CPIM certification
Experience in high-mix, make-to-order, or capacity-constrained environments
Exposure to S&OP / S&OE processes and demand planning concepts
