Park Maintenance Worker
Semi-skilled manual labor in connection with general maintenance and upkeep of parks and park facilities. Incumbent will perform a variety of construction and maintenance work, assist, and ensure public safety at the local parks, boat ramps, piers. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
Examples of Duties
General Maintenance of the Splash Park Facility to include monitoring of the filtration systems, cleaning and restocking of restrooms, and removal of trash.
Maintains appearance of the park (i.e., removal of trash and debris), including parking lot, beach, boat ramp, showers, picnic area, playground area, volleyball courts, sports field, etc.
Provides excellent customer service with the ability to communicate effectively.
Performs custodial duties within parks.
Performs basic repairs and maintenance on park fixtures, playground equipment and facilities.
Repair a variety of fences.
Mows, trims, edges sods and waters grounds.
Performs field maintenance using small equipment.
Performs painting tasks on park amenities and buildings.
Trims and removes trees.
May be assigned principally to Splash Park, Pine Island or Dock Worker positions during the high-traffic time frames of the season or as needed and subsequently assigned for general maintenance for the parks during the slower months.
Performs minor construction and maintenance on athletic fields and courts.
Operates most equipment associated with lawn/turf maintenance.
Transports equipment used in daily activities from site to site.
Weekend overtime may be required as well as rotation on-call.
Directs vehicles to available docking areas and parking locations/spaces while keeping traffic congestion to a minimum.
Raises and lowers flag each day.
Regular attendance; Weekend, holiday and shift work required.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
One (1) to two (2) years of experience in performing manual labor.
A combination of education, training and experience may be substituted at the County's discretion.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida and be insurable by current insurance carrier, or valid Florida Identification Card is acceptable only for positions not required to drive a county vehicle.
This position is subject to the Hepatitis B Vaccine when necessary.
ICS 100, 200, & 700 required within 90 days,

Ability to direct traffic to parking area after launching and pay stations as required.

Work is heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Environmental Conditions
Works outdoors in various weather conditions with potential exposure to dust, dirt, noise, heavy rains and wind, and vibration.
Equipment Used
All tools of the building trade.
