Job Description
Provides protective services to schoolchildren crossing streets at intersections.
Examples of Duties
Stops traffic.
Assists children in crossing streets by leading them.
Communicates with police department members on a portable radio.
Reports any accidents or traffic problems at intersections.
Fills in for other crossing guards during course of year.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: Ability to read and write and minimal experience required (less than 6 months). High school or GED preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications: VA driver's license
Knowledge: Knowledge of portable radio and police codes
Skills: Communication and customer service skills
Abilities: Ability to deal with all levels of the general public
Supplemental Information
Work Environment: Worker is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme noise, and dust and to potentially dangerous conditions or people.
Essential Physical Activities: Stooping, walking, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception.
