Lifeguard Position
Pay Rate: Starting at $16.00 per hour
Hours: FLEXIBLE
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Aquatics Operations Supervisor, the lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons and responding to emergencies at the Pavilion Aquatics Center and Rainbow Falls Waterpark. The lifeguard may be a year-round or seasonal employee.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Ensure patron safety by actively scanning assigned zones of the pool and enforcing rules
Recognize and respond to emergencies and assist patrons in distress as outlined by the Emergency Action Plan
Attend 4 hours of in-service training per month to maintain certification requirements and practice all CPR, First Aid, and lifeguarding skills
Inspect lifeguard equipment at the start of each shift to ensure it is in good working order
Work with other staff to perform routine cleaning/maintenance throughout the duration of each shift
Bring and use proper sun protection on every shift that includes outdoor rotation
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Help set up for programs and special events
Utilize scheduling software to communicate monthly availability and view scheduled shifts
Maintain a commitment to the operation of safe and effective aquatic environment
Go beyond the expected to provide exemplary customer service to patrons, including sharing information about the pool rules, EGPD programs, facilities, and events, and answering questions
Perform the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules
Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks
Responsible for other duties as deemed appropriate by the Pool Manager, Head Guard, Aquatics Supervisors, or Aquatics Manager
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
Must be able to work under stressful situations when First Aid or CPR is required, including the ability to respond quickly and accurately to any and all emergencies
Subject to modified/flexible work schedule
Work in a wide range of weather conditions which can include cold, rain, humidity, and extreme heat
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
The Lifeguard must be safety conscientious and use good judgment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Critical thinking and effective decision making skills
Ability to work with diverse populations
Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees
Ability to pass the lifeguard certification prerequisites:
Swim 200 yards without stopping (freestyle and breaststroke)
Tread water for 2 minutes (1 minute without using hands)
Retrieve a 10 pound object from the deep end of the pool (12 feet)
Ability to pass the Lifeguard Practical Test and Written Test (staff will be certified after successfully completing the on-boarding process)
Ability to pass vision test (with or without corrective eyewear)
Must be 15 years of age or older by the first day of work; candidates who are 15 must obtain a Work Permit before they can begin work
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must have or be able to successfully complete Lifeguard certification
