Hospital Cleaning Position
This position provides a variety of cleaning and service-oriented tasks to maintain the hospital in a sanitary, orderly and aesthetically pleasing condition. Responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing rooms along with furnishings in assigned work areas; and following cleaning procedures established by the Director of Environmental Services.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
1. High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Experience:
1. 6 months experience in hospital/medical housekeeping.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Cleans occupied and discharged patient rooms, office areas and restrooms, removes non-medical and medical waste following universal precautions and guidelines by EPA, and salvage cleaning; restores hard floor surfaces, vacuums carpeted floors. Contacts nurses' station for discharges/transfers and reports available rooms to appropriate bed personnel.
2. Cleans and prepares all environmental surfaces including but not limited to, furniture, beds, bathroom fixtures, window sills, door frames, vents, walls, televisions, and curtains following universal precautions.
3. Dust mops and damp mops patient rooms, hallways, stairs, bathrooms and offices; spot cleans carpet and furniture. Responds to customer requests, follows-up on STAT calls and fills in for various assignments, when necessary.
4. Maintains cleanliness of the following environmental services items (housekeeping cart, trash carts, break room, supply area, storage & equipment) reports repairs to appropriate personnel. Keeps service closets in an organized manner.
5. To respond to STAT calls via Spectralink phone if applicable.
6. Transfers furniture as necessary.
7. Collects, sorts and transfers recyclable materials, such as, paper, newspaper, cardboard, etc
8. Utilizes working knowledge of compactor recycling operations.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
1. Frequent walking, standing, bending, squatting, reaching, and twisting
2. Ability to lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds and push up to 50 pounds.
Working Environment:
1. Exposure to dust, cleaning chemicals, and bloodborne pathogens.
Skills and Abilities:
1. Ability to attend to more than one aspect of a situation simultaneously.
2. Efficiency in processing of verbal information, either in written or spoken form is a major requirement and prerequisite of the job.
3. Some independent thought, planning or origination of options and solutions is necessary.
4. Ability to apply principles of reasoning and problem solving to resolve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
