Job Title: Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer
This role supports the project and senior project management team through all phases of the project lifecycle, including design, pre-construction, and construction. The Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer helps manage scope, schedule, budget, contracts, and the bid process, while coordinating with internal teams, subcontractors, and customers. The position focuses on mechanical and HVAC construction projects, including complex and multi-building commercial projects, and offers exposure to state-of-the-art data centers and interaction with executive-level stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Work directly with the project management team to help manage and estimate construction projects throughout the design, pre-construction, and construction phases.

Organize and control project elements to ensure successful completion of engineering and construction projects.

Review drawings and construction documents for accuracy, completeness, and constructability.

Assemble all necessary details and documentation required to prepare competitive and accurate job bid proposals.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and interact with them to secure necessary information for job bids and project execution.

Support the Project Manager in collecting and organizing information to complete the monthly Work in Progress (WIP) report.

Assist in projecting, monitoring, and maintaining adherence to project budgets and the timing of key tasks and milestones.

Maintain project schedules by monitoring progress, coordinating activities among stakeholders, and promptly surfacing issues that require resolution.

Interface with subcontractors as needed to ensure schedule adherence and address any schedule-related challenges.

Control project costs by recommending appropriate expenditures and administering contractor contracts in alignment with project goals.

Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing project information and trends, and recommend appropriate actions.

Travel to job sites as necessary to review progress, collaborate with on-site teams, and provide solutions to technical or coordination challenges.

Assist with project timelines and support the enforcement of procedures, rules, and regulations to maintain a safe and clean working environment.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date project information by updating construction and project management systems and databases.

Be available to support the Project Manager in answering customer inquiries and addressing concerns in a timely and professional manner.

Contribute to overall team success by accomplishing related tasks and supporting colleagues as needed.

Take responsibility for project financials, administration, implementation, management, and customer satisfaction for assigned projects.

Manage the implementation and ongoing management of HVAC equipment projects and remain accountable for scope of work, schedule, and project deliverables.

Manage a portfolio of projects that may include smaller jobs as well as larger, multi-building, or complex construction projects.

Manage project scope, cost, and schedule by reviewing contract documents, holding internal coordination meetings, establishing clear customer expectations, and identifying risks with corresponding mitigation plans.

Compare estimated equipment ship dates with the contractor’s project schedule and ensure compliance with internal equipment ordering processes.

Maintain the accuracy of the forecasted cost at completion and control expenses by closely monitoring assigned project budgets.

Essential Skills

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Construction Project Management, or a related Engineering or Construction Management discipline.

Experience in project management within construction, preferably in commercial or mechanical construction environments.

Hands‑on experience with project scheduling and project management construction software.

Background in mechanical construction and HVAC or mechanical engineering projects.

Experience with project engineering, cost estimation, and project scheduling.

Ability to read, review, and work with construction documents, including drawings and specifications.

Experience managing change orders and coordinating construction project activities.

Strong, demonstrated customer service and problem‑solving skills.

Strong communication skills with a proactive approach and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Construction Management or Engineering degree with a focus on mechanical construction is highly beneficial.

Experience in commercial construction and managing HVAC equipment projects.

Familiarity with project coordination across multiple buildings or complex construction sites.

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and other external partners.

Comfort interacting with senior stakeholders, including executives from large organizations.

Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

Ability to identify project risks early and develop effective mitigation plans.

Interest in working on advanced facilities such as state-of-the-art data centers.

Work Environment
The role operates primarily in an office environment with regular on-site visits to active construction projects. On-site work includes coordination with field teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, as well as reviewing progress and resolving issues in real time. The position involves working in a fast‑paced setting with tight deadlines and multiple concurrent projects. You will use construction management and project scheduling software, as well as internal construction systems and databases, to manage project information, schedules, and financials. The environment offers exposure to modern, technologically advanced facilities, including state-of-the-art data centers, and provides opportunities to collaborate with a wide range of professionals, from field personnel to executive-level decision makers.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Muskogee, OK.

Pay And Benefits
Salary Range:

$32.00 - $48.08/hr.
