About the Position
Reporting to the Director of Collections, the Acquisitions Librarian leads and manages acquisitions activities for purchased and licensed content at UGA Libraries. The role streamlines resource procurement processes, manages the collections budget, fosters vendor relationships, handles order and payment issues, and leads a small staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage acquisitions activities, including procurement of print, digital books, monographic series, streaming video, and other resources.
- Design and implement effective workflows incorporating current technologies and standards.
- Support collections budget management by maintaining accurate acquisitions data and ensuring responsible resource stewardship.
- Assist with fiscal transactions related to the budget and develop expenditure data to inform collection decisions.
- Hire, train, and evaluate employees, coordinate workflows, and set performance goals.
- Collaborate with vendors and publishers to negotiate favorable terms and resolve orders, receiving, and payment issues.
- Work closely with other library departments, demonstrating flexibility and cooperation.
- Participate in library-wide planning, governance, and professional organizations.
- Engage in research and scholarly endeavors to advance knowledge.
Minimum Qualifications
- An ALA‑accredited Master’s in Library and Information Science or a relevant terminal degree.
- Two or more years of experience leading, supervising, or mentoring others.
- Two or more years of experience with the acquisition of library materials.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
- Excellent analytical and communication skills.
- Understanding of Integrated Library Management Systems, such as Ex Libris Alma.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, and supporting professional growth among library staff.
- Familiarity with data/metadata formats and standards such as COUNTER or MARC.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Power BI.
- Understanding of copyright, fair use, and rights management issues.
- Knowledge of trends in open access scholarly materials and publishing services.
- Project management skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong attention to detail.
Benefits and Compensation
Annual salary $60,000–$80,000 commensurate with experience. Benefits include health and retirement plans, dental and vision coverage, tuition remission, paid relocation, 21 days annual leave, 12 days sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.
