SCOPE
The Social Media Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the organization’s social media strategy to increase awareness, inspire engagement, amplify impact, and support fundraising initiatives. This role plays a key part in telling the organization’s story, elevating community voices, and strengthening relationships with donors, volunteers, advocates, and stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic goals.

Manage daily content creation, scheduling, publishing, and monitoring across platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube).

Maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity across channels.

Create and manage a social media content calendar aligned with campaigns, events, and fundraising initiatives.

Storytelling & Content Creation

Capture and share compelling stories that highlight program impact, beneficiaries, volunteers, and investors.

Develop engaging multimedia content, including graphics, short‑form video, reels, testimonials, and live coverage of events.

Collaborate with program and development teams to identify impactful content opportunities.

Ensure all messaging reflects the organization’s mission and values.

Support fundraising campaigns, giving days, peer‑to‑peer initiatives, and special events through targeted social media promotion.

Develop calls‑to‑action that drive donations, volunteer participation, and advocacy engagement.

Assist in paid social campaigns and boosting strategies to increase reach and conversions.

Community Engagement

Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely and professional manner.

Foster meaningful engagement with followers, community partners, and stakeholders.

Identify and cultivate relationships with influencers, ambassadors, and partner organizations.

Analytics & Reporting

Track key performance indicators, including engagement, reach, growth, and conversion metrics.

Analyze performance data and provide monthly reports with insights and recommendations.

Continuously optimize content strategy based on data and trends.

Reputation & Risk Management

Monitor social channels for brand sentiment and emerging issues, partnering with the Manager, Marketing, and PR contractors as needed.

Support crisis communications efforts as needed, partnering with PR contractors.

Ensure compliance with organizational policies and ethical storytelling standards.

OTHER DUTIES

Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups as directed and maintain the required level of knowledge pertaining to operating procedures, requirements, processes, and policies.

Lead and/or participate in projects or task force groups that focus on issues having organization-wide impact.

Perform or assist with any assignments as required or directed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office environment within a highly collaborative, synergistic, high‑paced team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasional exertion up to 10 pounds, lifting a box of paper, moving chairs, tables and sliding doors.

TRAVEL
15-20% domestic and international travel may be required.

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience).

1‑3 years of experience managing social media accounts, preferably within a nonprofit or mission‑driven organization.

Demonstrated experience creating engaging visual and written content.

Familiarity with social media management tools, analytics platforms, and basic graphic/video editing software.

Understanding of digital fundraising strategies and online engagement best practices.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Assists team members when needed to accomplish team goals.

Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.

Self‑motivated and self‑directed.

Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team.
