Position Summary
The Senior Director, Medical Writing‑Publications will provide strategic direction within the department and lead the development and execution of publication plans across multiple programs in alignment with evidence generation plans and lifecycle strategies, while ensuring compliance with SOPs, guidelines and company goals. The role includes writing and coordinating peer‑reviewed scientific publications and serving as the primary contact for publication activities across cross‑functional teams.
Work Model
Flex: Requires onsite work 2‑3 days per week, depending on business needs. Remote: Full‑time work from home with occasional travel to office locations.
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic initiatives within the department, including publication strategy, planning, and execution of product and pipeline plans.
- Propose and oversee new initiatives and capabilities, establishing best practices for publication strategy development.
- Interact with external authors and key stakeholders to develop high‑quality publications for journals and scientific congresses and provide publication support.
- Manage document lifecycle from first draft to final approved version, including editing, QC, QA, formatting, and archiving.
- Liaise with corporate functions and partners to ensure effective communication of publication activities.
- Use advanced communication and persuasion strategies to negotiate on behalf of the department.
- Contribute to strategic planning for the broader function and support corporate‑wide initiatives.
- Act as a trusted advisor and technical expert.
- Mentor junior medical writers and contractors.
- Support publication budget planning and management.
Requirements
- BS, MS, or doctorate in a scientific or medical field.
- Solid experience (15+ years with BS or 10+ years with advanced degree) in publication management and medical writing in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry.
- Proven success with leading and managing medical writing agencies and meeting quantitative targets.
- Experience analyzing and communicating scientific data in peer‑reviewed publications; knowledge of ICMJE, GPP, and related guidelines.
- Experience writing manuscripts for journals and abstracts, posters, and slide decks for scientific congresses.
- Superior influencing skills across all levels of the organization and external collaborators.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Experience engaging with cross‑functional product teams.
- Strong organizational abilities and multitasking experience.
- Motivated, self‑directed, and able to work autonomously and in teams to achieve aggressive goals.
- Rare disease experience and a strong understanding of neurodevelopmental disorders.
Pay Range: $246,900 - $305,000 USD
