Position Summary

The educators who serve as instructional team leaders are expected to coordinate and lead the work of their grade level/content area team, ensuring that the team engages in meaningful collaboration on all four PLC questions: 1.) What do we want students to learn? 2.) How will we know when they’ve learned it? 3.) What will we do when they don’t learn it? 4.) What will we do when they’ve already learned it?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Enhance the capacity of their team to work interdependently to achieve common goals for which team members hold themselves mutually accountable.
Leads team in preparing and utilizing norms, planning agendas, and chairing meetings.
Serves as a direct communication link between the administration and the staff.
Leads work of the team in analyzing and improving student data.
Researches and experiments with best practices in education.
Leads the collaborative development and attainment of learning improvement goals.
Identifies and communicates professional development needs.
Attends all ITL Learning Sessions, where they will study topics related to PLC work, meeting facilitation, and coaching.
Show up as learners, engaging in professional reading, discussion, and reflection, public sharing of team products, and giving and receiving feedback.
Serve on the building leadership team, charged with developing, facilitating, and monitoring school improvement efforts.
Help plan and lead identified action steps based on data reviews, which may include activities such as: co-planning and/or co-facilitating professional development, conducting action research, and building systems of mutual support and accountability.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A demonstrated record of effectiveness of their own teaching.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Ability to work well with others, which includes creating and maintaining a team culture that is both positive and inclusive.
Experience helping teams navigate cognitive dissonance and team conflict productively. In order to enhance the leadership capacity and effectiveness of others.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituent base, including but not limited to students, parents, staff and community partners.
Ability to delegate responsibilities and meet timelines.
Minimum Requirements

Possess a Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university.
Valid Michigan teaching certificate with endorsements applicable to grade level/content area of the position.
Lifelong learner with a collaborative spirit.
Preferred Requirements

Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience working with students in a diverse, multicultural academic setting.
Bilingual preferred but not required.
