Skyhorse Publishing, one of the fastest growing independent publishers in America, is seeking a team-oriented candidate to work in our editorial department in our midtown Manhattan office.

We are seeking a highly motivated and visionary Editor to join our New York City team. In this role, you will be responsible for acquiring, developing, and editing a robust list of titles. The ideal candidate has a sharp eye for commercial potential, a deep understanding of the evolving media landscape—including high-growth digital and social media trends—and a proven track record of shepherding books from concept to publication.
Key Responsibilities
Acquire and identify high-potential manuscripts and proposals working directly with agents and authors to negotiate contracts
Proactively scout for emerging voices, trending topics, and culturally impactful concepts across various media platforms
Prepare catalog copy, metadata, and cover design forms for each title
Shepherd titles from manuscript to bound book and liaise with authors, agents, production, art, sales, and publicity to ensure timely and successful publication of each title
Work to develop and maintain relationships with agents to acquire new titles
Requirements
3+ years of editorial experience at a book publishing company, preferably at a larger house
2+ years of experience acquiring books
Passion for discovering new and emerging trends before they saturate the market.
Self-motivated, deadline-driven, flexible, and well organized
Positive attitude/team player, maintains professional composure under pressure
Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
