Job Summary
WFSB has an immediate opening for an aggressive, dynamic, creative Assistant News Director to help manage the day-to-day operations of the newsroom. The ideal candidate will possess excellent news judgment, strong producing and showcasing skills, and strong management and leadership skills. The Assistant News Director will work closely with the Executive News Director on planning, training, and leading an award-winning news team.
Responsibilities
Work closely with multi-media journalists, reporters, producers, digital producers, anchors, and news managers to create compelling news content for broadcast, digital, and social platforms.
Oversee implementation and execution of strategic initiatives.
Help develop daily coverage plans and special content plans.
Help lead the news team during breaking news events.
Assist in training and providing constructive and actionable feedback for the news team.
Hold the team accountable for quality standards.
Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Executive News Director.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field required.
Minimum of 2 years of local news leadership in a commercial newsroom.
Proven track record of making appropriate decisions during breaking news events.
Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
A keen understanding of multi-platform storytelling.
Must be able to work flexible hours and adapt to schedule changes.
