Radio Systems Technician role is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex radio and microwave communication systems. This position plays a critical role in ensuring reliable two-way communication infrastructure through diagnostics, repair, and system optimization. The technician will work with advanced RF technologies, test equipment, and regulatory standards to maintain operational excellence. This role contributes directly to system uptime, safety compliance, and communication reliability.

Key Responsibilities
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair microwave and radio communication systems to ensure optimal performance
Read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and system specifications for maintenance and repair activities
Operate and maintain electronic test equipment used in radio and microwave systems servicing
Perform installations, maintenance, and upgrades of RF and communication infrastructure
Ensure compliance with FCC regulations and industry standards for radio systems operations
Support encrypted and secure communication systems utilizing AES and DES protocols
Work with digital radio technologies including P25 and modulation schemes such as LSM, CQPSK, and C4FM
Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on communication systems
Utilize CAD systems and logging recorders for dispatching‑related activities
Follow safety procedures when working with RF‑related equipment and elevated environments
Qualifications
Required:
Must be able to read and use a variety of schematics, plans, and specifications.
Knows how to use test equipment related to the maintenance of microwave and radio communications equipment.
Must be able to diagnose and repair malfunctions in microwave and radio systems.
Must be able to climb and work from ladders.
Must be knowledgeable with electronics theory as related to two‑way radio communications equipment.
Must know digital technologies such as P25 and various modulation schemes such as LSM (Linear Simulcast Modulation), CQPSK, and C4FM.
Must know encrypted and secure communications principles such as AES and DES.
Must be capable of basic mathematics necessary to solve functional electronic equations.
Must be knowledgeable with the principles, practices, methods, terminology, and trends in microwave and radio used to support two‑way radio systems.
Must know how to operate electronic testing equipment used in the service and maintenance of radio and microwave systems.
Must be knowledgeable with the Federal Communications Commission regulations concerning radio systems and operations.
Must be knowledgeable with networking principles, protocols, and infrastructure related to radio communications and systems.
Must be required to know the safety practices related to the operation and maintenance of RF‑related equipment.
Must know how to use various types of radio systems such as conventional and trunking radio systems.
Must have experience using CAD systems as they relate to dispatching.
Must have experience with logging recorders as it relates to radio dispatching.

Additional Details
The base range for this contract position is $38.33 - $48.33 per hour, depending on experience. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires of this position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
