The Multimedia Director is responsible for leading a creative team that produces and designs multimedia, procedural videos, interactive media, supporting ASTM products and integrated services we offer to other publishers. This position determines and drives advances ASTM can make as a standards industry leader through multimedia.
The Director is accountable for the group developing visual demonstrations of technical procedures based on ASTM and other publishers' test methods, 2D/3D rendering of technical apparatus, environments and materials that cannot be accessed, and other multimedia services that support standards, training, communications, marketing, and other products and services. The position requires extensive experience imagining, conceptualizing, shooting, designing, editing, streaming, and delivering multimedia for use by ASTM and other publishers' customers, members, and partners.
Organization Role
This position reports to the Vice President of Laboratory Services. This position directs the team responsible for multimedia solutions and execution of services in support of ASTM publications and customers including training, sales, marketing, and technical committee operations.
Responsibilities
Direct the program for producing videos, multimedia, providing demonstrations of standards procedures, sample preparation, apparatus setup, etc.
Manage the program for generating application and online demonstrations of ASTM products and services.
Strategically position ASTM's multimedia offerings and capabilities as leader in industry
Support technical committee operations, training, communications, marketing, and more.
Conceptualize and recommend alternate media formats.
Collaborate with various ASTM departmental staff to identify needs and prioritize projects, including Marketing, Product Development, Sales, Training, PTP, Membership, Corporate Communications, TCO.
Work with department staff and IT to deliver finished product.
Practice and apply critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to each project assigned; be a thought leader and model for peers.
Partner with outside organizations and direct team to schedule on-location video shoots and coordinate materials/personnel needed for the shoots.
Perform audit of assigned job requests. Ensures all specification information needed is available to produce material or digital files. Correspond with requestor and stakeholders to do so.
Direct team who works with outside vendors and suppliers to coordinate development of necessary media.
Develop and maintain special initiatives or departmental activities that will aid in increasing productivity, enhancing department workflow, decreasing costs, improving quality or other identifiable benefit.
Define project tasks and resource requirements and manage project resource allocation.
Direct the develop and execution of project plans.
Direct documentation process, and train staff on interdepartmental production workflows and content management system(s)
Train your team to collaborate with practices, test methods, etc.
Provide leadership and training to reporting staff on multimedia and video roadmap, direction, and issues.
Utilize outside vendors and suppliers to coordinate necessary equipment and materials needed for video and multimedia.
Direct development of budgetary information for other departments; meet planned budgetary targets.
Direct team to perform project evaluations, lessons learned, and assessment of results.
Select, manage, and train staff.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree
15+years of multimedia management and business strategy experience
10+ years of experience with video and editing techniques and software, including Adobe Creative Suite
5+ years of experience with streaming systems, processes, and equipment
Proficient in MS Office
A customer service orientation; strong communications/interpersonal skills
Fluent written and spoken English language skills
Proficient in MS Office
Preferred Qualifications & Competencies
Strong interpersonal and management skills. Excellent working knowledge of the entire range of video, multimedia, and design production from inception to delivery of final project
Thorough knowledge and experience with the following programs:
Adobe Publishing System (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Acrobat, InCopy, etc.)
Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Streaming and virtual meeting applications
Strong working knowledge of video encoding and conversion techniques, protocols and software
Comprehensive production experience with ability to convert raw text and images into aesthetically pleasing design for publication and exhibit
Excellent working knowledge of video player software and their file requirements
Understanding of online video capture software such as Camtasia, SnapzPro X, etc.
Understanding of technologies supporting conversion of video and content to specific media delivery, including online, DVD, mobile device format, etc.
Ability to work with SMEs to develop content
Excellent design quality demonstrable across media types and subjects
Experience designing wireframes, site maps, and page layouts for websites and online applications
Knowledge of HTML, CSS, web standards, and ability to design for web within HTML code, newsletters, digital publications, ecard promotions, and other digital environments
Thorough working knowledge of and experience with 4- to 6-color sheet fed print production process including cost-effective color placement and use of special coatings
Sufficient in Mac and PC environments
Adequate photo-editing skills (retouching for skin tones, shadows, saving for print/web)
Adequate editorial skills (copyediting, proof reading, comprehend meaning, and maintain copy accuracy)
Ability to deal diplomatically with customers, members vendors
Ability and willingness to specify new software, technologies, and supporting programs to improve workflow and systems
Strong organizational and administrative skills, cooperative attitude, and flexibility
Time management skills with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines for self and team
Detail-oriented, analytical, and inquisitive
