Summary
As the Commercial Product VP, you will lead the effort to drive profitable growth for a small business insurance product line. The Business Owner’s Policy (BOP) product is distributed through independent agents across multiple Mid-Atlantic states, serving classes such as artisan contractors, apartments, retail, office, and wholesale businesses.
A recent strategic affiliation has provided additional resources to support expansion into new classes of business and new geographic markets. Through frequent collaboration with sales, claims, and agency partners, you will develop and execute strategies to advance the business.
This role carries full P&L responsibility, including oversight of pricing, product development, underwriting strategy, competitive analysis, segmentation, and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute product strategies focused on profitability and growth while supporting sales, agency management, and brand development
- Establish Commercial Lines underwriting policies in collaboration with underwriting, claims, and marketing
- Oversee development of management reports to monitor and analyze product performance
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and tools to enhance product outcomes
- Manage the rate review process for selected lines of business
- Interface with insurance departments, regulatory agencies, and industry bureaus as needed
- Develop new coverages and endorsements using a competitive intelligence approach
- Review and update forms and endorsements to ensure regulatory compliance
- Analyze and evaluate performance of the existing book of business
- Maintain and monitor competitor intelligence and market positioning
- Manage relationships with key industry data and service providers
- Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines and forms manuals
- Review underwriting bulletins and agent communications
- Coordinate product management efforts across sales, underwriting, claims, and other internal and external stakeholders
- Serve as a resource for product related systems, workflows, and process improvements
- Partner on business intelligence enhancements and reporting initiatives
- Provide training to staff on products and underwriting practices

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, with experience analyzing and interpreting quantitative data to drive recommendations; MBA preferred
- Minimum of six years of product management experience, preferably within small commercial BOP
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversight of the Commercial Lines Underwriting function
- May manage analysts and/or product specialists
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This is a hybrid role requiring time in two Mid-Atlantic office locations, with occasional overnight travel. The position requires the ability to sit, communicate, and operate standard office equipment including a computer and telephone, as well as the ability to drive.
