The Commercial Finance team combines commercial and market knowledge with solid financial accounting skills to assure accuracy of the Financial Accounts. Comprised of a focused team, we partner with stakeholders to drive and impact business performance.
Role Overview
As the Director, Commercial Finance – NAM you will lead the Commercial Finance team and act as a strategic advisor for the Sales leads for each Channel/Country (VP, US & Caribbean Sales; VP, Canada Sales; VP, eStore; VP, Real Estate). Your responsibilities will include coordinating transparency toward NAM leadership, sharing best practices, and rolling out commercial excellence initiatives. This role works with Cluster and Global Commercial Finance to bring best practice to the market, drawing on global insights and data.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities to drive improvements in top and bottom line and other key outcomes (e.g., store labour management, working capital, cost reduction).
- Deliver the commercial results for the North America cluster (P&L and Balance Sheet) and act as the "engine room" of Business Performance management.
- Take strong personal ownership of achieving required business outcomes and driving best practices.
- Improve business performance within the cluster with tangible results, such as increased Sell‑In and Sell‑Out, higher Gross Profit & EBIT, and improved inventory levels.
- Build strong relationships with Business Partners and embed yourself within crucial business processes.
- Implement process improvements to drive efficiencies in areas such as Month‑End Close, Forecast updates, Target Setting, and ongoing reporting.
- Improve accuracy of Financial Forecasts (Budget, LE, Weekly Book, etc.).
- Provide financial and commercial support to drive performance and influence the delivery of the commercial result.
- Provide actionable insight to key forums based on risk, opportunity, and sensitivity.
- Set financial and operational KPIs/drivers.
- Approve business cases.
- Be part of core strategic projects within Cluster/Market (e.g., investments, new category/channel/product creation and launch), providing analysis.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field is preferred.
- 8–10 years of progressive experience in Commercial Finance within a global organization.
- Proven leadership experience, including 5–10 years managing and developing high‑performing finance teams.
- Strong industry exposure in retail, fashion, or FMCG, with a deep understanding of commercial dynamics.
- Demonstrated track record in driving financial strategy, performance management, and business partnering at scale.
- Strong understanding of strategic planning, commercial priorities, and end‑to‑end business operations.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership and cross‑functional partners.
- Experienced in navigating complex, matrixed, multinational environments with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex financial concepts for various audiences.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through change, foster collaboration, and build inclusive team culture.
- High level of business acumen and commercial awareness, particularly within consumer‑driven industries.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is required.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
Salary • Benefits
New York Salary: $198,000 – $245,000 commensurate with experience.
