What You'll Do
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Strategic Relationship Manager in the Benefits & Protection (Workplace Benefits) business unit to join our team. At Principal Financial Group, we are committed to providing exceptional service and world‑class solutions for our clients.

This role requires you to build and maintain strong partnerships with business partners, identify opportunities to increase revenue, foster external relationships, and generate value for assigned accounts. Collaboration with internal corporate teams is essential to deliver value for both Benefits & Protection and the enterprise. Your ability to analyze and solve problems efficiently will be critical to the successful execution of our business strategies.

Responsibilities

Collaborate and establish strong relationships with key business partners to discover potential growth opportunities and generate value for assigned accounts.

Focus on purposeful segmentation of strategic partners and align resources to enhance B2B relationships.

Communicate effectively with business partners to identify new opportunity areas and share successes.

Distribute relationship and market insights to business partners to manage strategic relationships more effectively.

Reduce operational and reputational risks by gaining a comprehensive understanding of essential relationships.

Facilitate strategic account planning activities to enable long‑term account growth.

Aid the SRM team in making the most of their valuable partnerships to uncover new avenues for creating shared value.

Who You Are

Bachelor's degree or equivalent, with 4+ years of related work experience.

Strong knowledge of workplace benefit products.

Strong oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Candidate with strong problem‑solving skills and a strategic approach to analysis.

Ability to work closely with both internal and external leadership and teams.

Attention to detail and well‑organized.

Self‑motivated, flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Ability to work independently and build strong relationships.

Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

Willingness to travel (approximately 30%) of the time, including overnight stays.

Licenses for this position include a Life & Health insurance license within 120 days of hire with appointment in the state of residence.

Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non‑sales positions may participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan that may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and finalized at the time of offer.

$104,400 - $187,200 / year

Salary Details

Wichita, KS: $104,400 - $140,400 / year

Des Moines, IA: $110,200 - $148,200 / year

Charlotte, NC: $116,000 - $156,000 / year

Chicago/Minneapolis: $127,600 - $171,600 / year

Los Angeles/New York City: $139,200 - $187,200 / year

Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short‑term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environment
This role offers in‑office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
