Role Overview
Lightsource bp seeks a Power Markets Analyst, Origination to support power marketing and customer origination activities across our growing renewable energy portfolio.

In this role, you will help originate and structure Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for utility‑scale solar and storage projects, support RFP responses, maintain financial models, conduct market research, and work with cross‑functional teams to bring new renewable energy projects to market.

This role works closely with power markets leadership, project development, structured finance, engineering, and construction teams to support commercial decision‑making and customer negotiations.

Power Marketing and Origination

Support

the development of customer RFP responses and competitive bid submissions

Prepare

customer‑facing proposals and marketing materials supporting bilateral negotiations

Support

Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) negotiations and customer discussions

Maintain

internal PPA contract tracking systems and deal pipelines

Conduct

market intelligence and competitive analysis

across renewable energy markets

Track customer activity, regulatory changes, and market trends using internal systems such as Salesforce

Commercial Analysis

Maintain

and update financial models and project assumptions

Analyze market pricing trends across wholesale markets, REC markets, and capacity markets

Support internal decision making by preparing

commercial analysis and deal summaries

Assist in preparing

investment committee and customer presentation materials

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Partner with teams across

project development, project finance, engineering, interconnection, and construction

Support coordination across internal teams to ensure commercial assumptions align with project economics

Communicate analysis and recommendations to internal stakeholders and leadership

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree

required, preferably in finance, economics, engineering, or a quantitative discipline

1 to 2 years of experience

in renewable energy, energy markets, consulting, project finance, or business development

Understanding of renewable project development and project finance fundamentals

Familiarity with energy markets and value streams, including PPAs, RFPs, auctions, RECs, and wholesale power markets

Strong financial modeling and analytical skills in Excel

Understanding of project valuation concepts such as IRR, NPV, and project financing structures

Experience preparing customer collateral, investment materials, or commercial presentations

Typical Backgrounds for Success

Renewable energy developers or clean energy companies

Utilities or power generation companies

Energy consulting firms or energy market advisory groups

Infrastructure or renewable project finance teams

Energy trading, power marketing, or wholesale electricity market organizations

Skills and Attributes

Strong analytical and financial modeling skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to translate complex information into

clear commercial insights

Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify anomalies and resolve issues

Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment

Self‑starter who thrives in a collaborative and cross‑functional environment

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary:

$100,000 to $110,000

Annual bonus:

10 percent target
