Our growing team is looking for a Technical Designer to join our Production Team. The ideal candidate must be a great communicator, highly organized with a keen eye for detail, and be able to work in a fast-paced team environment with shifting priorities.
Role Description
The Technical Designer is responsible for transforming creative design concepts into production-ready technical specifications. This role ensures that all garment or product designs align with fit, construction, and manufacturing standards while maintaining brand quality. The Technical Designer collaborates closely with designers, product developers, and production teams to refine patterns, conduct fittings, and troubleshoot any technical challenges throughout the development process.
Key Responsibilities
Fit and Construction Management: Lead fit sessions, ensuring garments meet desired fit, construction standards, and brand identity. Provide direction on pattern adjustments and garment alterations.
Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain quality standards for all products; review and approve samples, ensuring they meet company and industry standards; troubleshoot production issues related to fit and construction.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with design, product development, and production teams to ensure design intent is accurately translated into final products.
Vendor Communication: Manage relationships with vendors, including overseas manufacturers, to ensure that production aligns with technical specifications and quality standards.
Process Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in the technical design process, implement best practices, and streamline workflows to enhance efficiency.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of technical specifications, fit notes, and quality control measures; provide regular reports to senior management on team performance and project status; update WIP report.
Technical Package Development: Create detailed tech packs that include garment specifications, measurements, and construction details.
Garment Specifications: Ensure accurate measurements and grading across all sizes; develop and maintain a comprehensive size guide.
Fit Sessions: Conduct fit sessions with models or mannequins, providing detailed feedback and adjustments to ensure proper fit.
Sample Review: Review and approve pre-production and production samples, ensuring they meet quality and design specifications.
Quality Control: Collaborate with factories and vendors to ensure that garment quality meets the brand’s standards; troubleshoot production issues related to fit and construction.
Vendor Liaison: Serve as the liaison with overseas manufacturers, providing clear technical instructions and resolving fit-related issues.
Documentation Management: Maintain and organize all documentation related to garment production, including tech packs, fit notes, and spec sheets.
