Overview
New York University (NYU) seeks an experienced strategic and execution‑oriented Associate Director of Marketing and Communications to develop and deliver comprehensive communication and marketing strategies in support of its rapidly expanding science and technology portfolio. Reporting to the Chief of Staff for the Executive Vice President for Global Science and Technology, the role strengthens NYU’s reputation as a global leader in scientific research, technological innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The position blends strategic planning with hands‑on execution, requiring a communications professional who is comfortable setting direction and producing high‑quality content. It demands a deep understanding of the science and technology landscape, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record of developing and implementing impactful marketing campaigns.

The Associate Director will be embedded within NYU Tandon’s Marketing and Communications team in Brooklyn, benefiting from resources and expertise to support advanced communications for science and technology initiatives. The role maintains strong ties with NYU’s central Public Relations, digital, and social media teams, bridging, expanding, and coordinating science and technology communications and marketing strategies across NYU’s schools and units.

Responsibilities
Required Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Science, Technology, or a related field.

Preferred Education:

Master’s Degree in a related field.

Required Experience:

5+ years in marketing and communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include experience communicating complex scientific and technological topics to diverse audiences; experience with media relations (including proactive pitching and crisis communication); and a proven track record of developing and executing successful, integrated communication and marketing strategies.

Preferred Experience:

5+ years in marketing and communications with some leadership experience within a university, research institution, or a science/technology‑focused organization. Experience working in a global or international context.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders; proficiency in digital marketing, social media management, and content management systems; strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem‑solving skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, complex, and highly collaborative environment.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Familiarity with the higher education landscape and academic research environment.

Qualifications
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $105,000.00 to USD $125,000.00. NYU considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, key skills, internal peer equity, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
