Community Relations Manager – Domestic + International Regions
The Region Community Relations Manager is the primary field representative for the UPS Foundation. He/She helps design, coordinate and implement strategies to advance the company's commitment to making local communities stronger. This position is responsible for enhancing business value, the company's reputation in the community and helping to close gaps in community needs through strategic philanthropy, community partnerships, employee volunteerism, nonprofit Board engagement, and public relations in the community.
Job Responsibilities:
Analyzes and Develops Community Relations Strategy –
Manages District and Region community related Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threats (SWOT) analysis to determine which activities are the best to operationalize.
Set goals and strategy for philanthropy, charitable giving, volunteerism and community involvement to align with business objectives and The UPS Foundation Focus Areas.
Serves as community relations spokesperson, engages with approved media and represents The UPS Foundation in public.
Inventories and analyzes existing community involvement relationships, employee giving, volunteerism practices and other outreach partnerships to ensure alignment with strategic direction.
Develops and implements new signature programs of high-impact, high-visibility community involvement.
Implements Strategy and Programs –
Develops regional guidelines and policies in conjunction with The UPS Foundation and Region Staff to guide community involvement.
Manages, trains, and develops teams of local UPS community contacts to implement community programs.
Leads employee volunteer programs to ensure that community involvement programs and strategy are carried out.
Coordinates District Community Relations and collaborates with UPS Public Affairs to enhance UPS's corporate citizenship.
Drives accountability among other business unit department-heads to adopt and participate in community involvement programs. Monitors District grants and budget process to ensure it is on plan.
Evaluates and Measures Programs –
Uses quantitative and qualitative research to identify and create strategies incorporating public opinion, community leader viewpoints and employee expectations.
Benchmarks giving and engagement against peer companies.
Tracks and measures inputs, outputs and impacts of programs to determine quality and makes timely recommendations to enhance efficacy.
Manages Internal and External Communications and Partnerships –
Raise internal and external awareness of community involvement work to promote UPS and The UPS Foundation.
Builds internal partnerships and seeks cross-functional opportunities to meet shared business goals, working collaboratively with Human Resources, Public Affairs, Sales, Marketing and business unit leaders.
Informs senior leadership of progress and new developments to keep them apprised of activities.
Engages and motivates employees to participate in community involvement to gain optimal participation.
Works with Region Staff to ensure key leadership is involved in major community involvement partnerships nonprofit Boards and other community engagement activities.
Analyzes District SWOT analyses to make sure key strategic partnerships with community groups are maintained.
Represents the company and business units with key external organizations, donors, local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and relevant government entities to build community reputation.
Builds and maintains a cooperative community network of local community contacts within organization to gather information and share ideas and potentially collaborate on impactful community projects.
Manages and Develops Others –
Manages resources and people processes (e.g., Performance Management, Career Development, Training, Staffing, etc.) to ensure the day-to-day administration of processes and formal procedures.
Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities (e.g., training, special assignments, conferences, projects, etc.) to facilitate individual and team development.
Ensures that direct and indirect reports have documented career goals and detailed plans for achieving these goals to develop them personally and professionally.
Conducts frequent performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to facilitate open communication and encourage continuous performance improvement.
Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals.
Resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS's policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork.
Coaches others and provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance.
Identifies opportunities to involve others in new and challenging work assignments and/or rotations that advance the skills and capabilities of individuals and the organization.
Makes salary recommendations to reward employee performance.

Advises others on budgeting issues; evaluates the budgeting process to ensure equitable distribution of funds; anticipates and proactively addresses budgeting issues; identifies new tools to facilitate the budgeting process; establishes financial targets.
Communication Design and Management:
Designs, develops, and delivers internal and external communications. Uses appropriate techniques and tools for sharing information (e.g. internet, video, print).
Identifies the main message in documents; explains the importance of timely and relevant communication; demonstrates a basic understanding of the different channels available for communication.
Communication Design and Management (continued):
Designs messaging and visuals for appropriate audience; specifies needs and requirements for new communication programs; identifies and addresses logistical issues with communication programs.
Identifies root causes of problems with communication programs; designs communication programs based on organizational needs; adapts media channel and communication style to various situations or groups; recommends adjustments to communication strategies.
Designs communication programs for multiple or diverse audiences; evaluates the effectiveness of communication programs; resolves complex or high impact communication issues; determines criteria for effective communication programs; develops complex communication strategies.
Project Management:
Includes the processes and activities needed to identify, define, combine, unify and coordinate the various processes and project management activities throughout the entire project lifecycle and appropriate to the type of project.
Demonstrates understanding of implementation objectives, project plan, and one's role within a project; participates in the implementation of a project; provides timely, thorough, and concise updates for area of responsibility; identifies areas of risk and properly communicates them to the project manager.
Develops project management plans and leads the implementation for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; manages minimal organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology (e.g., Microsoft Project, Program Management Group website, etc.) appropriately.
Develops project management plans and leads the implementation for the most complex and longer duration projects and programs; defines initiatives project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; develops recommendations and facilitates fulfillment of all project requirements given the current project and organizational dynamics; overcomes complex organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; considered an expert in the discipline of project management and remains current on advanced project management practices and tools.
