TITLE
Ad Astra Academies Director

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

SUPERVISES: Assigned students/staff members

EVALUATION: Formal evaluation by Superintendent

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY
To operate Ad Astra Academies in an effective and efficient manner by setting the direction and developing ALL students and staff. Ad Astra Academies includes Ad Astra Virtual Academy (K-12), Ad Astra Alternative Academy (7-12), and Ad Astra Adult Learning.

QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Kansas Teaching License. Valid Kansas Administrative licensure preferred

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
MAKING THE ORGANIZATION WORK

Establish a direction and vision for the virtual school that is aligned with the mission and vision of the district.

Manage and complete student enrollment each year and assign courses for students each semester.

Delegate the workload of supervising students and courses equitably among staff, up to and including taking ownership of a group of students or courses, in response to fluctuating enrollment numbers.

Monitor student progress and guide instructional programming.

Participate on the district administrative team and provide input and direction on district priorities.

Promote and market Ad Astra Academies.

DEVELOPING ALL STUDENTS

Ensure all students are making academic progress by monitoring the instructional program and provide intervention as needed.

Provide access and effectively communicate data to all stakeholders.

Ensure that virtual school teachers have time and support to analyze and respond to student data.

Provide students access to a variety of student activities which support their academic, leadership, physical, emotional, and social growth.

Ensure that all students have access to services that promote mental, physical, and emotional wellness.

DEVELOPING STAFF

Provide professional development opportunities for all virtual school staff members.

Establish a positive and collaborative culture of learning within the school.

Promote teacher leadership among the staff of the school and district.

Encourage staff to take an active role in decision making and leadership according to their areas of expertise.

Evaluate teachers and staff in a timely manner and for the purpose of improving student growth.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties as assigned.

Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces academic progress.

Assumes responsibility for his or her own professional growth and development.

Assists in the recruitment, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluation of certified and classified staff.

Participates on district and building teams or committees as assigned or appropriate.

Facilitates collaboration with colleges and universities for dual credit enrollment and college readiness programs.
