SUMMARY
For the 2026 - 2027 school year, The John Cooper School is seeking an Assistant Director of Dance, who will be working with both Middle School and Upper School students in grades 6-12.
The John Cooper School, located in The Woodlands, TX, on a beautiful 40-acre campus with a total enrollment of 1375 students, is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school serving students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Full-time teacher in the dance program; independent teaching and team-teaching courses in grades 6-12.
Coordinate and assist with the 3-member dance department to choreograph for the Performing Arts Department Productions include but not limited to Upper School Musical, Middle School Musical and 5th Grade Musical. Assignment of choreographers for each production will be made based on expertise with performance styles and availability.
Coordinate with the dance department to design and choreograph the annual dance production in the second semester, including production design and choreography.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIORMENT
Required to walk; stoop, kneel or crouch; reach with hands and arms
Lead active dance classes and facilitate learning in a studio environment
Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 90% walking, and standing
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
Classroom/studio work environment
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Dance/Choreography/Musical Theatre/Performing Arts or related field; Master's degree preferred. Commiserate professional experience also considered.
Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience; independent school experience preferred
Knowledge of current best practices in all Middle School and Upper School levels of education
Experience with Aerial Arts preferred, but not required
