Overview
The Associate Art Director supports the Williams‑Sonoma Home Creative Director in developing compelling brand imagery across photography and digital channels. This role contributes to seasonal photo production while also helping expand our AI‑assisted asset creation workflows.
The ideal candidate has experience working on photography sets and a strong eye for interiors, lighting, and composition, along with curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging AI tools that enhance creative production.

Key Responsibilities
Support Creative Photo Production
Assist in the development, maintenance, and distribution of brand style guides, creative tools, and visual standards
Contribute to creative presentation decks including mood boards, references, location research, and seasonal photography planning
Collaborate with product design, photography, post‑production, and merchandising teams to support asset reviews and approvals
Assist with on‑set photo direction when needed, working closely with stylists, photographers, and set designers to execute the creative vision
Lead AI‑Assisted Image Creation
Partner with the in‑house AI asset production team to refine workflows for AI‑assisted rendering, retouching, and image creation
Help build and manage a library of photography backgrounds, interiors, materials, scenes, and props to support scalable image production
Provide creative oversight and maintain brand standards across AI‑generated imagery under the direction of the Creative Director
Stay informed on emerging tools, creative approaches, and competitive practices to drive innovation and efficiency in image creation
Qualifications
You have a strong passion for interiors and design, with a refined aesthetic and attention to detail. You bring experience in photography art direction and an understanding of lighting, composition, and styling, and you are excited about translating those skills into new workflows using AI‑assisted image creation tools.
You are collaborative, organized, and proactive, with excellent communication skills and a strong sense of ownership in delivering high‑quality creative work.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Art, Design, or a related field
Professional experience with a portfolio that highlights interiors, home furnishings, architecture, or lifestyle imagery
Understanding of photography standards and the ability to translate those standards into photorealistic renderings and digital imagery
Portfolio demonstrating strong interior composition, lighting, color, texture, and styling sensibilities
Familiarity with rendering workflows, model and material preparation, or related production processes
Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills with the ability to prioritize and work with urgency
Ability to travel for photoshoots and work on location at our Richmond, CA photo studio when required
Based in or willing to work from our San Francisco, CA office

The expected starting pay range for this position is $110,000 - $115,000. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job‑related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
