The New York City Employees Retirement System (NYCERS) is seeking a creative, strategic and highly skilled marketing and communications professional to lead the Internal Communications Unit within the Communications Division.
The Communications Division creates and implements NYCERS’ communication strategy and develops creative solutions that proactively engage internal and external clients and stakeholders. The division collaborates with other divisions to prepare and/or update artifacts (brochures, fact sheets, letters, forms) that NYCERS’ clients (members, retirees, beneficiaries) use to make decisions about their pension accounts; and to develop presentations for meetings with Trustees and other partners. The Communications Division also manages content, graphics, and multimedia on NYCERS’ website and secure self-service portal (NYCERS.org and MyNYCERS.org); and collaborates with internal stakeholders to share information and engage employees through internal channels.
The Associate Director Of Internal Communications, under direct supervision of the Communications Deputy Director, will work collaboratively with NYCERS’ Executive Team and Division Leaders to develop and implement a holistic, people-centered internal communications strategy. Guides internal executive communication strategy
Informs and prepares internal colleagues for upcoming changes and the impacts to their work
Improves and increases employee engagement and alignment with NYCERS’ strategic goals
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute integrated, multi-channel internal communication strategies that amplify NYCERS’ vision, goals, and initiatives
Collaborate with NYCERS’ Executive Director to develop content and distribute her newsletter, NYCERS on the Move, at least twice monthly
Collaborate with the Organizational Change Management (OCM) Lead on one of NYCERS’ top strategic initiatives (LRP) to develop and execute an LRP Engagement Plan
Collaborate with each Division Director to develop and execute divisional engagement plans for the calendar year
Develop engaging content, and work with a graphic artist and content manager to publish monthly updates to NYCERS’ TV screens (NYCERS TV)
Support NYCERS’ Executive Leadership Team to execute their quarterly division meetings, including developing templates and content ideas
Support the Deputy Director in proactively planning and producing NYCERS’ quarterly town halls, including pitching topics, coordinating with presenters, and developing content and engaging presentations aligned with the channel’s communication objectives
Develop KPIs and success metrics for internal communications initiatives, and collaborate with IT to procure tracking tools
Minimum Qualifications
A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with 24 credits in English, journalism, or public relations, plus five (5) years of full-time paid experience in public relations, journalism, or advertising, including two (2) years in an administrative, supervisory, or consultative capacity; or
A combination of education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above. Graduate study in English, journalism, or public relations may be substituted for up to one year of required experience. However, all candidates must have at least two (2) years of administrative, supervisory, or consultative experience in public relations, journalism, or advertising.
Preferred Skills
Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
Minimum seven years of experience in corporate communications, PR, marketing, or a similar role
Exceptional storytelling, writing, and editing skills, including the ability to create compelling narratives for diverse audiences
Ability to translate complex ideas and changes into clear, actionable, relatable, and engaging messages
Ability to collaborate with a diverse range of colleagues, and influence key stakeholders across the agency
The ideal candidate is a proactive collaborator who has a transparent, direct yet friendly communication style, and an exceptional storyteller with demonstrated experience developing and implementing thoughtful, people-centered communications. They will be organized, responsive, able to think strategically and independently about their work in the context of other agencies and division initiatives, and able to convey their perspective and ideas in a manner that invites feedback.
