In this position you will be responsible for building, expanding, and sustaining a high-quality network of clinical externship sites and employer partners for our programs. This role is a business development and relationship management position focused on generating new externship opportunities, strengthening employer partnerships, and supporting the institution’s extern-to-hire pipeline. The Site Developer works to ensure that externship capacity aligns with student demand and that externship sites consistently convert into employment opportunities.This position requires extensive fieldwork, employer outreach, and community engagement across California healthcare environments.Essential Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesExternship Site DevelopmentIdentify, prospect, and secure new externship sites including hospitals, clinics, laboratories, blood banks, EMS agencies, urgent care centers, and other healthcare providers.Build and maintain a consistent pipeline of active externship opportunities to meet and exceed student placement demand.Execute outreach strategies including:Cold calling and in-person visitsNetworking with healthcare administrators and hiring managersParticipation in community and workforce eventsPartner with the Director to align site development with externship capacity planning and enrollment growth.Ensure all new externship sites meet California regulatory, safety, and program-specific requirements prior to student placement.Employer Relationship ManagementEstablish and maintain strong relationships with healthcare employers to support both externship placement and hiring pipelines.Serve as a primary liaison between the institution and employer partners.Conduct regular site visits to:Maintain relationshipsEvaluate site qualityIdentify hiring needs and opportunitiesPromote extern-to-hire pathways, encouraging employers to hire students upon externship completion.Ensure high levels of employer satisfaction, engagement, and retention.Externship Pipeline & Workforce AlignmentCollaborate with the Externship Assistant to:Align student readiness with site availabilityEnsure appropriate matching of students to externship sitesProvide real-time feedback to campus teams regarding:Employer expectationsSkill gapsHiring trendsSupport achievement of key performance targets:Externship placement ratesExtern-to-hire conversion ratesEmployer retention and expansionCompliance & DocumentationAssist in securing and maintaining required documentation for externship sites, including:Affiliation agreementsSite approvals and evaluationsEnsure all employer partnerships comply with:California Labor Laws and externship guidelinesHIPAA, OSHA, and workplace safety standardsMaintain accurate and timely records of employer interactions, site development activities, and partnership status.Collaboration & Internal CommunicationWork closely with campus teamsParticipate in team meetings to review:Site development progressStudent placement needsEmployer feedbackContribute to continuous improvement of externship and placement strategies.Community Engagement & Brand RepresentationRepresent the institution in the community as a professional ambassador.Attend and participate in:Job fairsHealthcare networking eventsIndustry association meetingsPromote the school’s programs and students to potential employer partners.Bachelor’s degree preferred4–5 years of experience in:Business development, sales, or employer relationsHealthcare, staffing, or workforce development preferredExperience working with healthcare providers or clinical environments strongly preferredFamiliarity with California healthcare landscape is a plusStrong business development and relationship-building skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written)Ability to confidently engage with healthcare professionals and leadershipResults-driven with a proactive and persistent approachStrong organizational and time management skillsAbility to work independently in a field-based environmentProblem-solving and adaptability in dynamic situationsBasic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)Work Environment & RequirementsExtensive local travel required to healthcare facilities throughout CaliforniaValid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance requiredAbility to work both independently in the field and collaboratively with campus teamsPhysical and mental demands consistent with field-based relationship management and administrative dutiesWe offer an exciting, fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
