Objective
The Communications Specialist supports the development and execution of clear, consistent, and engaging communications for The Institute of Internal Auditors’ (IIA) certification programs. This role is responsible for producing high-quality content across multiple channels to enhance the candidate experience, support global stakeholders, and ensure accuracy and consistency across certification‑related materials. Operating with moderate supervision, the Communications Specialist brings strong writing, editing, and organizational skills to deliver communications that align with The IIA’s brand, strategy, and global audience needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, edit, and manage candidate‑facing communications across multiple formats, including:
Direct candidate emails and announcements
Social media content, blogs, and promotional messaging
Video scripts and podcast coordination
Maintain and enhance website content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with current program offerings
Support the development and maintenance of key certification documents, including:
Candidate Handbook (including translations and version control)
Certification Renewal Policy (including translations and version control)
Create and refine PowerPoint presentations and supporting materials for internal and external stakeholders
Coordinate with Marketing and other internal teams to develop communication assets and ensure consistent messaging
Manage and track updates across communication materials, ensuring strong version control and alignment across platforms
Support translation workflows and multilingual communication efforts in collaboration with other internal teams
Contribute to continuous improvement of communication strategies and processes to enhance clarity, efficiency, and user experience
Perform other duties as assigned to support the objectives of the Certification Department

Qualifications
Demonstrated proficiency within the communications discipline
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail
Demonstrated experience managing content across multiple channels and formats
Strong organizational skills, including experience with version control and document management
Self‑motivated and resourceful, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Able to operate with moderate supervision and some decision‑making latitude
Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across teams
Experience supporting multilingual content or translation projects is a plus
Prior experience in associations, certification programs, internal communications, or marketing environments preferred
Education And/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, English, or a related field
Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience
Language Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
Ability to clearly convey technical or complex information to diverse audiences
Multilingual capabilities are a plus
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts as needed for reporting and analysis
Reasoning Ability
Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and resourcefulness
Ability to analyze information, identify communication needs, and recommend effective solutions
Capable of addressing non‑routine issues using sound judgment and established practices
Computer Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint
Experience with collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint
Familiarity with design and content tools (e.g., Canva)
Experience using survey tools (e.g., Google Forms)
Comfort using AI tools to support content development and efficiency
