Publicity Assistant

The Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group is currently seeking a Publicity Assistant to provide day-to-day administrative and publicity support to two senior members of the Doubleday/Pantheon Publicity Department. The Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, a storied leader in commercial and literary publishing and home to some of the most iconic authors in the world, including Nobel Laureates Toni Morrison, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Alice Munro; Prize-winners Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche, Margaret Atwood, Robert Caro, Joan Didion, Percival Everett, Yaa Gyasi, Jhumpa Lahiri, Cormac McCarthy, Michael Ondaatje, Tommy Orange, Patti Smith, Anne Tyler, and Colson Whitehead; and global bestsellers Dan Brown, John Grisham, E L James, Erin Morgenstern, and Jo Nesbo.
Specific responsibilities include:
Learning to book media (print, radio, TV, online interviews) for book launches and author tours.
Pulling media lists and mailing books to print, radio, TV, and online contacts.
Arranging author events at bookstores and other event venues.
Learning to write press materials, including press releases and pitch letters.
Reading manuscripts ahead of publication and contributing to publicity plans.
Researching media trends, blogs, podcasts, niche interest groups, and more.
Working with travel agents to coordinate flight and hotel accommodations for authors.
Creating detailed schedules for touring authors and authors with heavy media schedules.
Contributing to departmental projects and tracking publicity hits in internal database.
Providing general administrative support including managing monthly billing, submitting seasonal awards, etc.

Strong interest in publicity, media, and book publishing
Prior office or publishing experience preferred
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Proven organizational skills and superb attention to detail, ability to prioritize and juggle concurrent tasks and deadlines
Timely follow-up over email and phone while navigating different communication styles
Ability to work independently and also collaboratively with a team
Proactive approach to problem-solving
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
The salary for this position is $51,000.00. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results. This is a hybrid position (3-4 days per week) with in-office responsibilities. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
