ABOUT PROJECTART
ProjectArt is building the largest art school and emerging artists residency in America without owning a single building. It is an award-winning, national nonprofit that transforms public libraries into cultural hubs through artist residencies—where emerging contemporary artists develop their practice while engaging communities through public programming and youth education.
DIRECTOR OF EMERGING ARTIST RESIDENCY
ProjectArt is seeking a Director of Emerging Artist Residency to lead and evolve the organization’s national artist residency program. This role centers on supporting emerging contemporary artists holistically—advancing their careers, expanding their visibility, and strengthening ProjectArt’s position as a meaningful launchpad within the contemporary art ecosystem.
Operating across multiple cities—including New York City, Newark, Detroit, Miami, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati—this position will shape the artist experience from recruitment through long-term alumni engagement. The Director will work closely with the Founder and Executive Director and collaborate across teams to ensure strong artist outcomes and continued national growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the strategic direction and execution of the residency program, supporting artists across their creative practice, professional development, and career trajectory.
Expand the program’s national profile by strengthening recruitment, increasing reach, and positioning ProjectArt as a source of high-potential emerging artists.
Build and maintain relationships across the contemporary art ecosystem—including curators, galleries, museums, nonprofits, collectors, and press—to promote artists and unlock opportunities.
Create pathways for artist advancement by facilitating exhibitions, partnerships, and other career opportunities, while co-leading the procurement and execution of exhibition venues.
Develop and activate a national alumni network to sustain long-term engagement, collaboration, and visibility for ProjectArt artists.
Collaborate cross-functionally to align artist outcomes with organizational priorities, including light integration with community and youth-facing programming.
QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of experience working with artists, residencies, galleries, or arts institutions.
Demonstrated ability to support artist development and navigate the contemporary art landscape.
Strong relationship-building skills and ability to cultivate external partnerships.
Experience with artist recruitment, cohort-based programs, or exhibitions preferred.
Highly organized, strategic, and comfortable operating in a growing, multi-city environment.
