Strategy & Tactics Press publishes three military history magazines ( Strategy & Tactics, World at War, and Strategy & Tactics Quarterly) distributed in the US and internationally in print. Decision Games produces several lines of history strategy board games—one game line is paired with the magazines to make Game Edition issues that combine a magazine and a game.
We are seeking a motivated and organized individual to join our in-office team on a part-time basis. The ideal candidate will have a range of experience with page layout and print publications, proofreading, branding and product development from concept to completion. We are not seeking an expert in every area, but someone with strengths in some of these areas and a willingness to learn new design skills. The Assistant Graphic Designer must be able to work on several projects at the same time to meet scheduled deadlines.
Primary Tasks
Assemble and send out early drafts to external proofreaders.
Execute corrections to maps and diagrams.
Prepare art files to assemble physical game prototypes to support game development.
Graphic Design
Communicate with project leads and make revisions.
Create diagrams and conduct image research for magazine layout.
Skills and Abilities
Schedule and prioritize tasks with excellent attention to detail.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
Requirements
Must have experience using desktop publishing software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Microsoft Suite.
2+ years of design experience preferred. Must provide samples of previous work.
Completed or progressing towards a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, product development or related field is a plus. Experience in magazine production, tabletop games, or history beneficial.
Compensation will be determined by experience.
