Role Title: Principal Web Engineering Lead
Role Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced engineering leader to guide the design and delivery of high-visibility, customer-facing digital platforms. This role blends deep technical expertise with team leadership and strategic thinking. You'll remain hands-on while setting technical direction, mentoring engineers, and partnering with product, design, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, cloud-native web solutions.
This position is well-suited for someone who enjoys leading by example, balancing execution with architecture, and building platforms that directly support business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Set technical direction for modern web platforms, ensuring solutions are scalable, performant, and maintainable
Lead and mentor engineers, fostering strong engineering practices and continuous improvement
Design and build complex, customer-facing applications using modern JavaScript and cloud technologies
Collaborate across disciplines with product managers, designers, data partners, and business leaders to align technical solutions with strategic goals
Drive modernization efforts, improving performance, reliability, and developer experience
Own delivery outcomes, from early design through production release and ongoing optimization

Qualifications & Experience

6+ years of experience delivering high-traffic, public-facing web applications with clear business impact, including experience leading or mentoring engineering teams
Advanced proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, with hands-on experience using React, Next.js, Node.js, NestJS, and modern testing frameworks
Strong expertise in API architecture and integration, including RESTful services, GraphQL, and third-party systems
Experience with distributed system patterns, including microservices and micro-frontends; familiarity with Redis is a plus
Deep understanding of web fundamentals, including HTML, CSS, vanilla JavaScript, and performance optimization (Core Web Vitals)
Proven experience delivering software in Agile environments, working closely with engineering, UX, product, and business partners
Experience with modern development practices such as CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, build tooling, and AWS-based deployments
Solid understanding of application security best practices, including OWASP standards and protection of sensitive customer data
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high bar for quality and detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical audiences
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience

Salary: $180-190k/year
Compensation is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
