Mountain Theatre Company, North Carolina’s oldest professional theatre organization, is seeking to hire a A1 (Audio Engineer) for Dancin' in the Street. This position will join the experienced, award-winning team behind Western North Carolina's premier professional theatre company.

Project Rate: $650/week
Housing and Travel: Provided / Single Occupancy

Production Dates: June 24th - July 13th
JOB DESCRIPTION
This position calls for an energetic, dynamic, and dedicated individual who works well with a great deal of independence and exercises independent judgment while performing a variety of duties. The Audio Engineer (A1) works closely with the Sound Designer and Artistic Director to execute all audio-related aspects of the production. The A1 is required to attend all technical rehearsals through to the official opening of the performance and run of the show. Travel and Housing are provided by Mountain Theatre Company.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Live mixing of all performers (vocalists and musicians) and recorded playback tracks during the full run of the show.
Program show cues into QLab in coordination with other departments.
Make the necessary adjustments during previews in accordance with the Sound Designer.
Maintain the design set by the Sound Designer throughout the full run of the show.
Maintain all production rental sound equipment.
Organize repairs and/or swap out options for sound equipment as needed during the run of the show.
Coordinate, assign, and monitor wireless frequencies for microphone packs.
Build, organize, track, and maintain wireless microphone rigs for musical theatre.
Troubleshoot problems and quickly and effectively resolve during performances for each performance.
Manage expendable inventory (batteries, mic tape, gaff tape, etc.) and report to the Production Manager when supplies need to be replenished.
Willingness to perform, at times, physically demanding tasks, with the ability to lift items potentially weighing up to 50 pounds.
Availability both during the week and on the weekends for both daytime and evening hours, especially through scheduled tech rehearsal weeks.
REQUIREMENTS
Proficiency in QLab programming including audio, network, OSC, and timecode cues.
Proficiency in programming scenes within digital sound consoles.
Proficiency with digital consoles and stage boxes.
Basic understanding of Audio networking (AES and Dante).
Ability to live-mix up to 30 sources at a single time using the Broadway/West-End line‑by‑line method.
Unmatched organizational and problem‑solving skills.
A firm, kind, polite, respectful, encouraging, positive attitude, and calm demeanor.
Patience, stamina, a sense of humor, and the ability to remain calm under strict deadlines.
Training/Certification in CPR, AED, and/or first aid is a plus, but not required.
High school diploma or GED is required.
B.A. or B.F.A. in Theatre or a Technical Theatre is a plus, but not required.
A minimum of 2 years professional experience mixing musical theatre.
LICENSE/Certification
Driver's License (Preferred). Ability to drive to contact is a plus.
