About the Campaign
Teaneck is one of the most diverse and civically engaged municipalities in Bergen County. Council members are elected at large to staggered four-year terms, and three seats are up in November 2026. Winning requires a disciplined field operation, genuine relationships across every neighborhood, and tight message control.
Position Summary
The Campaign Manager is the day-to-day operational leader of the campaign. You own the plan, the calendar, the budget, the team, and the candidate’s time. You report directly to the candidate and campaign committee, and you are accountable for hitting the vote target on Election Day.
Core Responsibilities
Strategy and Planning
Build and maintain the written campaign plan: vote goal, targeting universe, path-to-victory math, budget, and week-by-week milestones.
Track performance against benchmarks and adjust tactics weekly.
Brief the candidate and committee on progress, risks, and decisions needed.
Field Operations
Design and execute the voter contact program: door-knocking, phone banks, relational organizing, and literature drops.
Build walk lists and call lists from the voter file; manage data hygiene and contact history.
Recruit, train, schedule, and retain volunteer canvassers and captains; build neighborhood- and community-specific teams.
Own the GOTV plan for the final 96 hours, including ride-to-the-polls and poll-watching logistics.
Candidate Management
Own the candidate’s schedule: coffees, house parties, synagogue and church visits, civic meetings, community events, and door time.
Staff the candidate at high-priority events; prepare briefing memos and talking points.
Protect the candidate’s time and enforce message discipline.
Communications and Message
Implement the campaign’s messaging across mail, digital, earned media, and candidate surrogate appearances.
Oversee literature, mailers, website, and social content; manage vendors (printer, mail house, digital, video).
Draft or review press releases, statements, and letters to the editor; handle inbound press inquiries.
Build and run call time for the candidate; research prospects; draft donor correspondence.
Plan fundraising events (house parties, small-dollar pushes, targeted asks).
Track pledges and collections; work with the treasurer on cash flow.
Compliance and Administration
Work with the campaign treasurer to ensure full compliance with NJ ELEC reporting requirements and all applicable Teaneck and Bergen County filing deadlines.
Maintain clean records of expenditures, contributions, and in-kind support.
Manage vendor contracts and the master budget.
Lead paid staff (if any), interns, and the volunteer leadership team.
Run a disciplined daily and weekly operating rhythm (daily check-in, weekly all-staff, weekly committee update).
Qualifications
Required
At least one cycle of campaign experience in a lead or senior role (manager, field director, deputy manager) on a municipal, legislative, or congressional race.
Proven ability to recruit and manage volunteers and hit contact goals.
Proficiency with a voter file (NGP VAN / Vote Builder or equivalent).
Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
Working knowledge of NJ campaign finance law and NJ ELEC reporting or demonstrated ability to get up to speed quickly.
Willingness to work nights, weekends, and long hours in the final stretch.
Preferred
Prior experience in Bergen County, North Jersey, or a comparable diverse suburban electorate.
Familiarity with Teaneck’s political landscape, community institutions, and civic organizations.
Experience managing mail, digital, and video vendors.
Fluency or working proficiency in Spanish, Korean, or Yiddish is a plus.
What We’re Looking For
Judgment, discipline, and stamina. We want someone who can make hard calls under time pressure, tell the candidate uncomfortable truths, and keep the trains running when things get chaotic in October. You should be comfortable knocking doors alongside volunteers on Sunday morning and reviewing a compliance report on Sunday night.
To Apply
Send a resume, a short cover note explaining why you want to run this race, and references from two prior campaigns or supervisors to idan@up-vote.org. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
