Position Summary
Graduate Assistant – Standard are student workers who contribute to the mission of southeastern University while pursuing their graduate studies. This position assists the department faculty or supervisors with administrative or project‑related tasks, as assigned. GA positions are established on a term-to-term basis and are not guaranteed for the entire academic year.
Benefits
Tuition: 75% off for 6-9 credit hours per semester
Maximum work hours per week: 20 hours
Available for fall, spring and summer terms
Stipend: $2,000 per term
Non-exempt: Must clock in/out each day to track hours worked.
General and tech fees covered 100% (fees waived)
5 meals per week (when available/cafeteria open); meal plan not available during summer and on some holidays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Departmental Support : Assist in departmental-specific administrative and project-related duties, as assigned by supervisor.
Student Culture : Serve as a role model, exemplifying southeastern University’s values and standards for student conduct.
Instructional Support (if applicable) : Assist faculty in preparing course materials, grading assignments, and mentoring undergraduate students as needed.
Administrative Assistance : Perform various administrative tasks, including scheduling, managing correspondence, maintaining files, and ensuring efficient department operations.
Special Projects : Contribute to special projects or initiatives as assigned by the supervisor or department leadership.
Additional/Non-Essential Duties
Availability to work 20 hours per week, with flexibility around academic commitments. Familiarity with platforms such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite, JICS, MyFire, statistical software, and/or learning management systems specific to the position.
All remaining duties are considered "nonessential" within the context of the ADA, meaning they could be reassigned to another employee in order to allow a disabled individual to hold the position.

Required Education : Completed bachelor’s degree and acceptance into a southeastern University Graduate Program.
Required Experience : No experience required.
Additional Requirements : Availability to work 20 hours per week, with flexibility around academic commitments; familiarity with department-specific software and tools, as required. Training to be provided.

Abilities: Ability to collaborate with faculty to enhance student learning experiences and provide targeted support to students as needed.
Administrative Assistance
Knowledge: Understanding of administrative processes such as scheduling, correspondence management, and document/file organization.
Skills: Proficient in office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite) and organizational tools to support efficient department operations.
Abilities: Manage multiple administrative tasks effectively and ensure the timely completion of assignments, contributing to overall departmental efficiency.
Special Projects
Knowledge: Awareness of departmental initiatives and projects, with willingness to adapt to new tasks as assigned.
Skills: Strong problem-solving and project management skills to contribute meaningfully to special projects.
Abilities: Work independently or collaboratively on special projects, ensuring tasks are completed on time and in alignment with departmental goals.
Work Environment

Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit for extended periods, using a computer keyboard, occasionally reaching and standing for extended periods. Must have good close vision to see details on a screen. Minimal heavy lifting or strenuous physical activity, unless otherwise specified in athletics or campus life departments.

To be determined by supervisor/departmental need and to align with student school schedule.
Training
All new hires and employees transferring into a new position will have a 90‑day probationary period during which to learn the functions of the job and to be evaluated. Following the probationary period, the employee can transition to regular status, have the probationary period extended in order to receive more training, or employment can be terminated. Required compliance training is as follows: Various safety and departmental training, as required by the supervisor.
Safety
SEU promotes a safe working environment. Employees are responsible for completing assigned tasks safely and efficiently, and supervisors are responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment.
Employees must report any unsafe work conditions or practices, as well as any near‑miss incidents, to their supervisor and Risk Management.
Work‑related injuries must be immediately reported to Security and Human Resources. When life or limb are at risk, please dial 911. Supervisors and employees should ensure that injury/accident reports are submitted to the Office of Human Resources within 24 hours of the incident.
Emergency Employees report for or must remain at work in emergency situations. Dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to this position, unless instructed otherwise by your direct supervisor or a member of the Leadership Team.
Screening
All full‑time positions and some student or Graduate Assistant positions at SEU are deemed security‑sensitive and require background checks. Employees required to drive their own personal vehicle, a rental car or an SEU vehicle in performance of their duties must pass an MVR records check and meet the requirements of the University’s insurance carrier in order to meet the requirements of the position.
