POSITION SUMMARY
The Music Teacher at Grand Rapids Christian Middle School creates a learning environment for students in fifth through eighth grade. Collaborating with staff, the music teacher exhibits flexibility, organizational skills, and an ability to connect with students of a wide variety of ages. The Music Teacher also provides leadership in chapel worship.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure high-quality music instruction that incorporates praise and worship in a Christ-centered classroom

Create a classroom environment that celebrates students as image-bearers of Christ

Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s ability to participate in the choir

Develop and implement plans for the music program and show written evidence of preparation as required

Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences

Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing

Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students

Plan for and incorporate student involvement in leading chapel worship

Help staff members implement worship time in the chapel

Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the student handbook

Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principal, and teachers

Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members

Participate in professional development opportunities

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Michigan Teaching Certificate and/or Music endorsement/certificate

Preference given for BA/BQ/BD endorsements

Bachelor's degree in music education preferred

Teaching experience in relevant field preferred
