is seeking a
Web Developer (Drupal)
to support the National Institute of Corrections digital presence by maintaining, enhancing, and developing a secure, accessible, and user-centered Drupal-based web platform. The role blends hands‑on Drupal development with day‑to‑day content management, ensuring that NIC’s website remains current, functional, and aligned with federal web standards.
The position is responsible for maintaining a high‑quality, accessible, and user‑focused web experience while driving awareness and usage of training and information resources, and is part of a team with two additional web developers and a web content manager who report to the Lead Web Developer and Project Program Manager.
The position is remote but candidates
MUST be located in the Denver Metropolitan area ONLY.
Key Responsibilities
Drupal Development and Maintenance
Design, develop, and maintain Drupal-based websites
Build and customize modules, themes, and components
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, bugs, and performance concerns
Implement updates, patches, and security best practices
Ensure compliance with federal standards
Content Management & Publishing
Manage day‑to‑day content updates; including pages, documents, and multimedia
Collaborate with content owners to ensure accuracy, usability, and consistency
Configure and maintain content types, taxonomies, and workflows
Optimize content for usability, accessibility, and search
Collaboration and Support
Work closely with staff to support digital initiatives
Provide technical guidance and training to staff on Drupal content entry and workflows
Coordinate with staff to ensure system integrity and compliance
Quality Assurance and Performance
Perform testing
Monitor site performance and recommended improvements
Maintain documentation for systems, processes, and updates
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a job‑related discipline and/or relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year‑for‑year basis
Five years of technical experience working with web applications that include Drupal, web design, content management systems, and LAMP architecture
Desired Skills
Experience with web development using content management systems; Drupal 9+ preferred in LAMP‑stack environments (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
Proficiency in front‑end development web programming languages such as HTML5, CSS, jQuery, JavaScript, TWIG
Experience with responsive design
Experience with accessible design (Section 508 and 255)
Proficiency in graphic design software including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, and other visual design tools
Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product managers and engineers
Good understanding of content management systems (Drupal)
Good understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) principles
Proficient understanding of cross‑browser compatibility issues
Up‑to‑date experience with international web protocols, standards, and technologies
Establish and maintain brand guidelines
Edit and maintain website content
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Skills
Experience designing in federal environments and for federal projects
Experience with the field of corrections and corrections agencies
Excellent visual design skills
Creative and open to new ideas
Adaptable and willing to learn new techniques
Excellent communication skills
Designing visual imagery for websites and ensuring that they are in line with branding for clients
