SEO/GEO Lead

Creative People Inc, New York, NY, United States

Salary min: $140,000.00

Salary max: $160,000.00

SEO Lead
About
Company was founded in 2018 with one truck and a $20,000 investment. Today, it is America's fastest‑growing moving company: entirely bootstrapped, $200M+ in annual revenue, 1,500+ team members, and a fleet of recognisable pink trucks operating across the country. No outside investors. No corporate red tape. Just a brand built on grit, execution, and an obsession with customer experience.

The Opportunity
SEO is one of the most critical acquisition channels at the company. It is a primary driver of business growth and treated as such. The role reports directly to the Head of Growth, works closely with the CMO, and interacts with the CEO. Work is visible in the market and measurable.

At a pivotal moment, there is an external SEO agency in place. The new SEO Lead will own the strategy, manage their output, hold them to deliverables, and build the infrastructure that connects SEO performance to business results. It is a builder role with no existing playbook.

What you’ll own
Technical SEO Execution

Own and manage the technical SEO health of the site: crawl analysis, site architecture, indexing, Core Web Vitals, and structured data implementation.

Lead pre/post‑launch technical audits for site migrations and new market expansions; maintain a robust go‑live checklist that protects SEO equity through every transition.

Implement and audit schema markup, including structured data that improves visibility in AI‑powered search: AEO, featured snippets, answer engines.

Diagnose root causes of performance shifts and translate them into a prioritised action roadmap.

Multi‑Location & Local SEO

Build and scale a geo‑targeted SEO strategy across all current and future markets.

Own local landing page strategy, Google Business Profile optimisation across locations, citation management, and local pack vs. organic tracking.

Develop geo‑specific keyword playbooks as the company expands into new cities and regions.

Agency Management & Accountability

Serve as the primary point of accountability for the external SEO agency: set the agenda, track deliverables, manage quality, and hold timelines.

Run structured check‑ins, own reporting frameworks, and communicate progress clearly to internal stakeholders including the Head of Growth and CMO.

Build processes from scratch where none exist; don’t just optimise what’s already there.

Performance Reporting & Business Attribution

Build and own reporting that connects technical SEO changes to business outcomes, not just impressions and clicks but leads, revenue, and growth.

Share findings proactively with leadership; don’t wait to be asked.

Stay current on algorithm changes and translate them into specific implications for the company’s strategy.

AEO & Emerging Search

Develop and test strategies for visibility in AI‑powered search results (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) through structured data, content formatting, and citation optimisation.

Bring a point of view on how generative search will reshape acquisition for a multi‑location service business.

What we’re looking for
Must‑Haves

True technical SEO depth (5‑8 years): structured data, crawl issue management, full technical audits, and pre‑launch checklists from scratch. Keyword discovery and content writing alone are not enough.

Geo‑targeted SEO experience: right keywords per geography, location page optimisation, GBP management at scale across expanding markets.

External agency management: held partners accountable for deliverables, timelines, and output quality. Can run an agenda, follow up, and get work done.

Project management as a superpower: simplify complex problems, communicate clearly, and manage workloads across multiple partners.

Proven business attribution: connect SEO performance to revenue, not just traffic. Understand longer attribution trajectory and make the connection clear to non‑technical stakeholders.

Builder mentality: figure things out without a fully resourced team, identify problems, and solve them independently.

Zoom in / zoom out capability: technical execution day‑to‑day and strategic thinking about what moves the needle for the business.

Comfortable in a flat, fast‑moving org: small in‑house team, visible work, direct impact, CEO and leadership in the weeds.

SEO as a make‑or‑break channel: background from a company where search was existential (e.g., insurance, brick‑and‑mortar service, high‑competition verticals).

Communication: translate technical SEO concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders; interface directly with the CMO and occasionally the CEO.

Nice‑to‑Haves

Website migration experience; part of at least one full migration, knows the risks, checklist, and protection of SEO equity.

Familiarity with Reddit and forum content as signals for content strategy and AEO.

Exposure to digital PR or earned media for link building support.

Growth marketing or paid search exposure: useful for shared language across the team.

Agency background preferred: signals stronger hands‑on execution density earlier in career.

Full transparency: we are not for everyone. We are a fast‑paced, execution‑driven company where showing up means actually doing the work. The team is lean, flat, and focused. PowerPoints are secondary; energy goes into the deliverable.

The founder remains deeply involved in details, and we expect the same level of ownership from everyone. Doers, problem‑solvers, and people obsessed with excellence thrive here. If that describes you, and the idea of building something real excites you, you’ll fit right in.

Where people have struggled: needing a large team behind them to get things done, difficulty taking direct feedback, or a preference for moving slowly.

Where people have thrived: coming in and figuring things out, even things they’ve never done before.
