Arts And Culture Manager
The Dave and Roma McCoy Arts and Cultural Center ("MACC") is a performing arts venue developed through a partnership between the Town of Mammoth Lakes ("Town") and the Mammoth Lakes Foundation. Honoring the legacy of Dave and Roma McCoy, the facility reflects their enduring vision for a culturally rich and connected community. This venue serves as a regional hub for arts, culture, and education with supporting performances, films, lectures, and community programming that advance artistic excellence and civic engagement. The Arts and Culture Manager is responsible for the overall administration, operation, and management of the MACC. The Arts and Culture Manager will lead a high-performing team, develop partnerships with local arts and culture organizations, and position the venue as the premier regional hub for performing arts in the Eastern Sierra. This position oversees all aspects of facility scheduling, staffing, and daily operations to ensure the facility functions as a professional, safe, and inviting venue for patrons, artists, and community members. Working collaboratively with Town staff, community partners, and local arts and culture organizations, the Arts and Culture Manager, where appropriate, will support the Town-wide delivery of diverse and community-centric programming to foster a vibrant and inclusive cultural experience. Supervision received and exercised: Receives direct supervision from the Parks and Recreation Director/Public Information Officer ("PIO"). Exercises direct and indirect supervision of assigned staff.
Examples of duties include: Abide by and implement Town policies and procedures. Coordinate with the Parks and Recreation Director/PIO on the annual budgeting, forecasting, and management of the projected revenue, budgeted expenses, and reporting functions of the MACC operations. Support the development and implementation of the annual strategic workplan, fee schedule, and facility policies and procedures. As appropriate, manage contracts with artists, vendors, and service providers in collaboration with Town departments. Collaborate with Human Resources on recruitment for assigned staff. Oversee the training, supervision, evaluation and recognition of facility staff, including technical operations, box office, and front-of-house, marketing and promotion teams; oversee scheduling and facility use. Coordinate with the Mammoth Lakes Performing Arts Foundation to support fundraising campaigns, grants and facility sponsorships. Collaborate with community partners and resident tenants to deliver Town-wide diverse, mission-aligned programming. Schedule and manage an annual calendar of performances, with a focus on cultivating partnerships with cultural organizations, presenters, promoters, and artist managers. Facilitate scheduling, rentals, and logistics for performances, rehearsals, and special events. Monitor custodial operations and building systems; coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs with Town staff, and external vendors as needed. Coordinate with facility staff to ensure accurate recordkeeping pertaining to equipment, maintenance schedules, and inventory. Assist with the development of the Parks and Recreation Commission ("Commission") agendas; represent the department at the Commission and Town Council meetings as directed. Respond to and address guest and client inquiries promptly and professionally. Assist in the preparation and coordination of grant writing, fundraising, donation, and sponsorship activities as required. Participate in a variety of Town, community, regional, and state committees as assigned; attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay up to date of new trends and innovations. Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and accessibility regulations. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Typical qualifications include knowledge of: Procedures and best practices for developing, coordinating, and implementing recreation and/or arts and cultural related activities and programs. Procedures and best practices for operating and programming recreation facilities and/or arts and cultural facilities. Organizational and management practices related to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies, and operational needs. Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation of employees. Registration/ticketing software, point-of-sale systems, and other recreation-related software. Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions. Customer service best practices, both internal and external. Fund accounting and budgeting practices. Research methods and report preparation. Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations. Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and supporting software applications. Ability to: Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the work of assigned staff; delegate responsibility; select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff. Communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing. Work independently in the absence of supervision; coordinate multiple concurrent projects, work under pressure, and meet deadlines with limited supervision. Understand and carry out oral and written directions within established timelines. Maintain confidentiality of work performed and information received. Operate and use modern office equipment. Compile and maintain records; prepare routine reports. Operate programs within allocated budget. Work an irregular schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, when necessary. Monitor program compliance with related laws and regulations. Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity to changing situations and needs. Experience and training: Any combination of education, experience, and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the necessary knowledge and abilities would be: Education: Bachelor of Arts/Fine Arts/Science degree from an accredited university in theatre, recreation administration, public administration, business administration, or related field is preferred. Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the arts and culture and/or parks and recreation industry. A minimum of three (3) years supervisory/management experience is required, and some California municipal experience is preferred. Licenses: Possession of, or ability to obtain within the state-required timeframe of ten (10) days from hire, a valid State of California Class C driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Must pass an appropriate background check prior to the hire date. Possession of, or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire: Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate Basic First Aid Certificate.
