Position Summary
The Communications Specialist is a key member of the Communications team responsible for developing and executing internal and external communication strategies at Phoenix Children’s. This role collaborates with a team to enhance the communication experience for all stakeholders—employees, providers, patients, and more—while inspiring and promoting our culture, mission, and values. The specialist plans, executes, and evaluates communications efforts to drive awareness, understanding, preference, and loyalty for Phoenix Children’s. They craft strategic messaging, deliver it through the right channels, and capture feedback, always keeping the specific communications purpose in mind. Writing, editing, planning, and producing print and digital materials, organizing stakeholder events, and managing communication tools are core aspects of the position.
Position Duties
Communications and Project Planning:
Works with stakeholders to identify effective strategies, prioritizes projects, and develops integrated communication plans that align with goals. Coordinates with Marketing and Communications to ensure alignment of messages and timelines, and ensures activities meet legal standards (HIPAA, Stark, etc.).
Project Management:
Delivers multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously, meeting deadlines, quality measures, and budgets.
Editorial, Collateral and Content Management:
Researches, writes and produces material targeted to employees, patients, providers, etc., including e‑newsletters, flyers, brochures, and other vehicles. Collaborates with stakeholders to develop topic ideas and ensures high‑quality, AP‑style, error‑free content.
Research and Strategy Development:
Uses research to understand stakeholders and create strategies that keep the organization and its audiences informed about Phoenix Children’s developments.
Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree with a major or minor in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or a related field
Required: Yes
Experience
One (1) or more years of experience in writing, editing and production coordination
One (1) or more years of previous experience in a marketing, communications or public relations role
Hospital or healthcare experience
