The Collins Aerospace Applied Research & Technology organization seeks candidates with proven research credentials in model-based engineering and model-based design to join the Digital Systems Engineering Group. The team is part of the Collins Aerospace Advanced Methods Department and is geographically distributed in the US and Italy. It works with Collins product teams and external research sponsors to extend both the state of the art and the state of the practice of Cyber Physical, Embedded systems and AI-enabled systems development.

The ideal candidate has a mix of academic and research background in Model-Based System Engineering and experience in system-level modeling and prototyping of cyber-physical and AI-enabled systems. The candidate must have excellent communication skills (written and oral) to internal and external customers, be adaptable to change, possess critical thinking skills, and be determined to accomplish tasks based on program schedule. The candidate should collaborate with teammates, enjoy learning new technologies, be self-motivated and contribute to a positive work environment.

This is a remote position within the US.

Responsibilities

  • Define novel MBSE methods, where models are the enablers for the “digital thread” linking requirements, architecture, and implementation models.
  • Realize innovative solutions with problem solving approaches and out-of-the-box thinking.
  • Lead the maturation and transition of transformative technologies to industrial business units bridging the gap between exploratory research and industrial application.
  • Contribute to the definition of R&D activities within an international research community, including technology development within collaborative multi-national research programs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience, OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
  • Effective communication and presentation skills in English (verbal and written)
  • Must be able to verify U.S. Person Status as defined by ITAR

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in an appropriate technical discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering)
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) modeling languages, including SysML (Cameo or Enterprise Architect), Matlab/SystemComposer and MBSE frameworks (e.g., MagicGrid, UAF)
  • Experience with Model-Based Design modeling languages and tools (e.g., Matlab/Simulink), and software architecture frameworks (e.g., FACE or AUTOSAR)
  • Experience with DO-178C and DO-331
  • Experience with software tool architecture definition, tool prototype implementation, tool integration and automation solutions
  • Experience with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Matlab Deep Learning Toolbox)
  • Knowledge of project management and Agile development is a plus
