Social Media Manager

FoodNerd, Buffalo, NY, United States

Location: Buffalo | Full-Time | FoodNerd Inc.

This position is for a growing company operating at the intersection of food, product development, and consumer brands. The company is focused today on making nutrition feel better, easier, and more possible for families by creating foods that are closer to nature, gentler on ingredients, and built for real life.

As the company continues to expand its visibility and influence, it is seeking a highly media-native Social Media Manager who has a bias for action to work closely with the founder to build brand relevance, thought leadership, and momentum through content.

This role is first and foremost about creating large volumes of compelling social content, understanding how platforms reward distribution, and turning ideas, opinions, and behind-the-scenes work into posts that go viral.

The Social Media Manager will play a critical role in shaping how the company and its founder are perceived publicly. This includes translating complex or technical ideas into clear, engaging, and culturally fluent content, while consistently experimenting with formats, hooks, and narratives to drive reach and engagement.

This hire is being managed by TSC, a partner organization supporting the company’s growth; however, the Social Media Manager will work directly with the food and beverage company’s founder and internal team.

What You’ll Be Doing
1. Founder-Led Content Creation & Brand Page Distribution

Manage 2 social media profiles: The brand and The Founder’s account.

Work closely with the founder and team to ideate, capture, and produce 30 pieces of short-form content per month across Instagram + TikTok with Facebook and LinkedIn working as secondary channels.

Turn conversations, ideas, opinions, and in-progress work into content that feels timely, authentic, and native to each platform.

Help shape the founder’s online voice and presence, balancing credibility, accessibility, and cultural relevance.

Own posting cadence, formatting, captions, hooks, and publishing strategy.

Be hands‑on with filming and content capture; video editing may be supported separately, but comfort with lightweight editing tools is strongly preferred.

2. Social Strategy & Virality Intuition

Constantly analyze what is performing across platforms and why. Figure out formats, pacing, hooks, narratives, and timing.

Experiment aggressively with content styles, angles, and formats to drive reach and engagement.

Stay deeply plugged into internet culture, trends, memes, and discourse, and know when to lean in versus when to avoid.

Develop instincts around what content is likely to resonate, spread, or spark conversation.

3. Brand Relevance & Storytelling

Build the company’s brand relevance by consistently communicating its work, values, and mission in a way that feels human and compelling.

Translate complex food, nutrition, and product development topics into content that educates without alienating.

Support long-term positioning around innovation, credibility, and impact, particularly as it relates to nutrition access and global food challenges.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Partnerships

Manage inbound and outbound partnership communication (including a shared partnerships inbox) to help sort, prioritize, and surface events, creators, and collaborations that can drive brand awareness.

5. Performance Tracking & Iteration

Monitor performance across views, engagement, saves, shares, and follower growth.

Identify patterns in what works and quickly double down on high‑performing formats.

Use insights to refine content strategy, not over‑optimize it.

Valuable Skills for Success

Obsessive interest in social media. You naturally dissect why content goes viral and think in hooks, formats, and narratives.

Strong content creation instincts, especially for short‑form video.

Comfort being hands‑on with shooting, editing, posting, iterating.

Deep understanding of how different platforms reward distribution.

Ability to simplify complex ideas into compelling, scroll‑stopping content.

Strong collaboration skills, especially when working closely with a founder.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Demonstrated experience creating content for social platforms, whether for brands, founders, or personal accounts.

Proof that you understand how to drive reach and engagement.

Comfort working fast, experimenting often, and iterating in public.

Familiarity with tools like Google Sheets, Notion, Slack, basic video editing apps, and native platform tools.

Genuine curiosity about food, nutrition, innovation, and impact‑driven work.

At least 2 years experience, $50‑65k
