Job Description
Band Director - MS/HS

Qualifications:

Must hold a valid State of Michigan Teacher Certification.

Must hold a Music Education endorsement (JQ or JX).

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education.

Successful prior teaching experience in elementary or secondary music education is preferred but not required.

Strong technology and computer skills preferred.

Excellent communication skills - oral and written.

Regular and reliable attendance is expected.

Must be able to differentiate instruction for students.

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.

Be knowledgeable about music education standards.

Ability to integrate technology into the classroom.

Essential Job Functions:

Plan and implement engaging and comprehensive instrumental music instruction for students.

Develop and maintain a challenging and sequential curriculum aligned with state standards and best practices in music education.

Prepare and conduct high-quality performances for various audiences, including concerts, festivals, and community events.

Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student growth, discipline, and teamwork.

Provide individualized instruction and support to students of varying abilities.

Maintain a well-managed and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.

Oversee the maintenance and inventory of school-owned instruments.

Make recommendations for repairs and purchases.

Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and parents to support the overall music program and student success.

Stay current with trends and best practices in music education through professional development activities.

Manage the band program’s budget effectively, including fundraising efforts.

Supervise and support extra‑curricular music activities, such as Pep bands, honor bands, and music clubs (as needed).

Ability to develop/sustain positive working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.

Understands and implements Board of Education Policy, Administrative Guidelines, and organizational practices for the purpose of consistency and compliance.

Strong organizational and leadership skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and administrators.

Terms of Employment:

Full‑time salary and health care benefits provided. Negotiable based on experience, education and certification; per CEA Contract.

Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.
