Position Summary

Monroe Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and passionate High School Choir Director to lead and grow a comprehensive choral program at Monroe High School. This position is responsible for directing all choral ensembles and fostering a culture of musical excellence, student engagement, and community involvement.

In addition to directing choir, the successful candidate may teach other music-related courses such as Piano, Guitar, Music Theory, or similar classes based on student needs and scheduling.

Per Teacher Master Agreement

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or higher in Music Education.
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with

ZG (Vocal Music)

or

JQ (Music Education)

endorsement.
Demonstrated knowledge of vocal/choral pedagogy and conducting techniques.
Minimum of three (3) years of comparable experience preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Program Leadership

Direct and supervise all high school choral ensembles and performances.
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned to diverse student needs.
Create an inclusive classroom environment that values a wide range of musical styles and cultures.
Program Development & Collaboration

Develop and implement recruitment strategies in collaboration with middle school and elementary music staff.
Build and sustain a strong, growing choral program across the district.
Collaborate with staff, administration, and community partners to support music education initiatives.
Performance & Event Coordination

Plan and present major concerts annually.
Prepare students for and participate in Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA) festivals and workshops.
Program Management

Maintain inventory of choral attire, equipment, and music library materials.
Maintain active membership in the Michigan School Vocal Music Association.
Attend and support Monroe High School Choral Boosters Club meetings and activities.
Preferred Skills

Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
Experience with vocal ensemble direction and festival preparation.
