Assistant Editor
We're seeking a temporary Assistant Editor from now through at least October, possible longer. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to support our team and gain hands‑on experience in a dynamic publishing setting; it is essential for overseeing reprint coordination, schedule management, and providing general editorial assistance.
Key Responsibilities
Reprint Coordination: Lead the coordination of reprints for the PRPG children's division, working closely with cross‑functional team members and diligently tracking reprint schedules.
Book Schedule Creation: Develop and manage schedules for all new titles, ensuring timely project progression from concept through production. Excel proficiency is crucial for this task.
Production and Creative Schedule Updates: Regularly update the creative and production schedules to keep all teams informed and projects on track.
Adherence to Standards: Follow established Standards and Practices documents to ensure accuracy in scheduling and editorial processes.
General Editorial Assistance: Provide secondary support to the editorial team, assisting with proofreading, documentation, and other editorial tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Education: Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree in English, Publishing, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel for scheduling and tracking; comfortable with various digital tools and computer systems.
Detail‑Oriented: High attention to detail is a must for maintaining schedules, coordinating reprints, and supporting editorial accuracy.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to coordinate effectively with multiple departments.
Personality: Friendly, proactive, and adaptable, thriving both independently and in a team setting.
Adaptability: Excels in a fast‑paced environment with the ability to juggle multiple priorities effectively.
Interest in Children’s Books: A plus for candidates with a passion for children’s publishing.
