Role Overview
Project Petals is seeking a

PR & Communications Volunteer

to support our Earth Month and external communications and media outreach efforts. This role is ideal for someone interested in public relations, journalism, communications, or advocacy who wants hands-on experience crafting stories, pitching media, and shaping campaigns for a cause-driven organization.
Key Responsibilities
Draft and edit

press releases , media advisories, and announcements
Research and develop

media lists

and identify relevant journalists, outlets, and platforms
Pitch stories, op-eds, and thought leadership pieces

to local and national media
Support the planning and execution of

communications and awareness campaigns
Create pitches around awareness months or fundraising campaigns
Help refine key messages, talking points, and organizational narratives
Track media coverage and support reporting on outreach efforts
Research and identify relevant

conferences, panels, summits, and speaking opportunities

aligned with Project Petals’ mission
Draft and submit

speaker applications, panel proposals, and conference pitches
Pitch Project Petals leadership for

keynote talks, panels, webinars, and workshops
Track awards deadlines, submissions, and outcomes
Support preparation of

speaker bios, talking points, and presentation abstracts
Collaborate with the Project Petals team to ensure consistent and mission-aligned messaging
Qualifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Interest in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, or advocacy
Ability to write clearly, persuasively, and with attention to tone and audience
Organized, proactive, and comfortable working independently
Familiarity with media pitching, press releases, or op-eds is a plus (but not required)
Passion for mission-driven or community-focused work
