GPJ is hiring an Account Director to join our growing team. This role is hybrid, requiring you to report on-site to one of the following office locations a minimum of 2 days/week: Boston, New York City or Austin, TX.

Role Responsibilities
You are responsible for ensuring the overall success of our clients and the profitability of their accounts, particularly on larger projects. You oversee the margin levels within your assigned portfolio, adapting to any service changes that may arise, and you ensure that we meet all timelines and budget requirements for every aspect of the account.

Maintaining a strategic responsibility for nurturing the relationships between our clients and our agency, you actively work to build trust and engagement with senior‑level clients and vendors. You are accountable for creating and developing direction and objectives for the accounts you oversee, becoming a subject‑matter expert on our client’s brand, business, and industry, and supporting program direction, objectives, and plans. You possess proficiency in our tools (CRM, Deltek, etc.) and a thorough understanding of our processes, always deploying GPJ methodologies efficiently.

Another significant aspect of your role is driving account growth. You continuously pursue and generate new revenue opportunities as part of your activities. You deeply understand our full range of services and effectively communicate this both internally and to clients as part of our sales process. You balance a high level of client service and satisfaction with consistent, efficient deployment of GPJ methodologies, focusing on account health metrics such as HR%, temp spend, forecasting, and staffing. You take accountability for building, managing, and reconciling large and complex budgets, delegating work to key team members as needed, and mentoring and leading your team. You define a vision for the team, align resources with this vision in collaboration with functional leaders, and manage a cross‑disciplinary team with dotted‑line reporting.

Core Skills

Fully capable of building decks and presentations that tell a story in the language the client will understand

Possess executive presence – able to read and command a room

Understand how to effectively oversee complex project timelines in line with strategic objectives

Understand effective budget oversight and troubleshooting for larger, more complex budgets, leveraging SMEs as needed

Ensure the team proactively addresses key project financial metrics, including profitability and margin

Ensure the team accurately interprets and proactively addresses impacts of changes on project financial metrics

Able to drive accountability with the team and assist with troubleshooting continuous improvement around financial metrics

Able to have strategic, complex financial conversations with clients

Has a clear understanding of PO and reconciliation process; ensures timely client invoicing

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (PPT, Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with ERP, project management software, or similar tool is preferred

Account Development & Growth
Through in‑depth business, industry, and client knowledge, you drive forward‑thinking approaches and concepts aligned to and anticipating client needs and objectives, enabling agency differentiation, identifying new growth areas, and ensuring client satisfaction.

Client Orientation
You demonstrate concern for satisfying external and/or internal clients. You focus on the end client, ensuring response times and service are at the forefront of interactions, via technology or human touchpoints, and prioritize personal interactions with clients on a regular cadence. You listen to and advise clients on given situations to ensure engagement success.

Relationship Builder
You develop, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with others inside and outside the client organization, manage client expectations, define new business opportunities, and deliver against clients’ needs while balancing the needs of the client and the agency. You relate well to all kinds of people, building constructive and effective relationships and diffusing high‑tension situations comfortably.

Experience & Education

10+ years of previous industry/agency experience

6+ years of progressively increasing client management responsibility/experience desired

4 year college degree; preferred in marketing, advertising, event management, business administration, hospitality, communications, or related field; MBA or Executive MBA is a plus

Salary Range
Salary Range: $100k – $120k. Salary is dependent on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) experience, skills, and location.
