Kentucky Educational Television (KET) has a full‑time position opening at its Lexington, Kentucky Network Center: Television Broadcast Engineer.
Used by more than two million people each week, KET is Kentucky’s only statewide media organization, broadcasting into 8 states and 10 media markets and providing live and on‑demand streaming services. In addition to offering high‑quality PBS programming, KET annually produces hundreds of hours of award‑winning local productions and creates nationally recognized educational resources.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a trusted public media team, supporting a wide variety of productions, including Kentucky’s only nightly statewide news program, six locally produced series, Kentucky history and cultural series, and documentaries. As a Broadcast Engineer, you will be an important member of a six‑person engineering team that oversees innovative technologies in a professional television studio, production, and broadcast environment across three facilities in Lexington, Louisville, and Frankfort, providing technical support for master control, media processing, playout, four state‑of‑the‑art studios and control rooms, and an interconnected post‑production system.
The overall Technology group at KET consists of Engineering, Transmissions Systems, Broadcast Operations, Information Technology, Digital Product Development, and Facilities, working together to support the delivery of high‑quality programming throughout the state.

Responsibilities
Install, repair, and maintain broadcast equipment, including master control, production studios, post‑production systems, and other technologies.
Update system components, including hardware and software, and ensure security standards, protocols, and drivers are properly managed; maintain records and decommission systems.
Ensure network and physical security procedures are maintained and enforced.
Configure, control, and monitor camera and video levels for studio and remote productions.
Liaise with IT Systems Administrators, Transmissions Engineers, Production Staff and Web Developers to enhance network efficiencies, improve workflows, and solve problems.
Maintain records of system configurations and workflow SOPs, ensuring documentation is updated as systems are modified or new systems installed.
Effectively collaborate with team members by sharing skills, knowledge, and processes; seek and participate in training opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in electronics, IT, or related area of study; two (2) years of professional experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is preferred. Broadcast systems experience should include:
Routing and distribution systems
Video servers
Playout automation systems
Multiviewers
Transcoding
LTO libraries
Production switchers
Digital audio systems
Graphics systems
Non‑linear edit systems
MAM
VTRs
Studio and field cameras and lenses
Demonstrated skills in the operation and troubleshooting of Windows‑based systems and television studio, post‑production, and master control playout systems.
Working knowledge of broadcast test generators, test equipment and signal monitoring systems.
Working knowledge of IP networking and configuration.
Knowledge and experience in the utilization of AI tools to enhance productivity and effective troubleshooting is preferred.
Must be able to work under deadline pressure in an efficient, creative, and positive manner.
Communication and professional interpersonal skills, with appropriate dress and appearance at all times.
Available on a flexible schedule and able to work occasional evening and weekend shifts.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
Frequently moves, lifts, or carries equipment weighing up to 70 pounds; required to operate equipment while standing, sitting, bending, or kneeling for extended periods of time.
