Senior Multimedia Manager

The Senior Multimedia Manager is responsible for storyboarding, producing, directing, and editing videos and podcasts for the Air & Space Forces Association. The Senior Multimedia Manager will work directly with AFA departments to build compelling multimedia productions as standalone material or to complement podcasts (audio and/or video), policy papers, reports, feature articles, wargames, events, and workshops. The resulting video, podcast, and multimedia productions will tackle complex material and make it accessible to any audience, helping AFA convey the importance of critical issues facing the Air Force, Space Force, and U.S. national security. Material will be distributed on AFA platforms ranging from websites to social media to YouTube and email newsletters. The Senior Multimedia Manager will manage and mentor other AFA multimedia producers, enabling specialization and teamwork while also building a collaborative, effective, and efficient workflow. This individual must be a capable videographer, able to capture video, b-roll, record and produce podcasts, contribute to studio and live events, and generate derivative content from events and podcasts for use on social media, email, and other distribution channels. AFA has a generous employee benefits package in addition to cash compensation. Our hiring range for this role is $95,760-$119,700. More experienced candidates are invited to apply and are encouraged to add salary requirements within the application.
Essential Functions

Manage multimedia team (25% of effort):
Lead, mentor, and direct a team of three other audio/visual content creators, maximizing their time and talent.
Set standards and standard operating procedures for video and audio production, including organizing and cataloguing content, maintaining efficient workflows, and developing the team.
Manage complex multimedia projects, delegating roles and responsibilities to accomplish mission objectives.
Work with team to ensure AFA branding and key stakeholder objectives are achieved.
Oversee live and virtual A/V production (25% of effort):
Provide vision and technical expertise to effectively capture live, studio, and virtual events. Must be highly skilled with cameras, lighting, and audio in order to direct others and when necessary operate equipment.
Capture still b-roll, conduct on-camera interviews, and create sizzle reels at AFA events.
Continue to drive growth on AFA's and Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies' YouTube channels with the goal of broadening AFA's reach and attracting a younger membership base. Must be familiar with social media video.
Maintain and organize multimedia assets, b-roll, and project files through effective data management systems and meta data tagging to support team collaboration, streamline retrieval, and ensure long-term archival access.
Oversee video production (25% of effort):
Oversee production of video stories, commercials, and mini-documentaries, ensuring cross-department collaboration with subject matter experts and technical content creators.
Manage the video creation process from start to finish. To include: storyboarding scripts, pulling assets, editing audio and video, reviewing videos with appropriate department leads, and publishing content to YouTube, Vimeo, or appropriate content management system.
Use video to complement existing products to better tell the AFA, Air Force, and Space Force stories.
Oversee podcast production (25% of effort):
Produce, edit, and publish AFA podcasts, to include the Aerospace Advantage, America 250: The Air & Space Power Story, and Building Better Leaders podcasts.
Develop a system for utilizing videos in AFA podcasts.
Monitor and track podcast analytics and work with Communications Director and other AFA senior leaders to build engagement and grow audience.
Required Job Qualifications

Education and Experience Required:
At least 7 years of experience capturing, curating, editing, and producing video and photo content for print and digital mediums.
Demonstrated experience managing and directing creative talent.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.

Skilled with video cameras, microphone/sound set-up, lighting for studio and staged events.
Proficient with Adobe Create Suite, Frame.io, Blackmagic, streaming software such as Streamyard and Zoom, Vimeo, YouTube Studio, Descript, and social media platforms.
Strong organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines and attend to details.
Must be a creative, flexible thinker and self-starter who can tackle both complex, technical and human/emotional storytelling.

Working Conditions

Hybrid work environment. Works out of AFA headquarters in Arlington, VA, three days a week, or as needed based on events; remote up to two days a week.
Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, subject to modification based on the needs of each program or site.
Operates in a professional office environment with travel to local offices, community partners, and events.
Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Must be able to travel as needed.
Physical Demands

The position requires sedentary work (sitting most of the time with no adverse environmental exposure) and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The position also includes the following physical requirements:
Movement. The employee in this position needs to carry photographic equipment, lights, and other objects on location, including set pieces. The employee must be able to set up equipment and sets on a stage or in the studio, and to climb ladders to adjust lights.
The employee in this position needs to be able to operate a computer, other office productivity machinery such as a copy machine and printer, and cameras and photo and video-editing equipment.
The employee is required to communicate and hold verbal conversations with others by means of the spoken word. Employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
